....on the eve of his competing in a show I promoted a few years back.
He was and is a terrific bb.
And, I thought he'd really do well in the show the following day.
"One thing...", I admonished him.
"Lose the afro."
He became somewhat cross with me...at least, his demeanor and expression said so.
he thought I was against his 'afro-centricity' or whatever.
"No," I told him. "Dude...your fro is so large and wide, it literally makes your shoulders look narrow."
I kind of went out on a limb and held no bars telling him what I (correctly) thought, because I wanted him to do well.
I told him how RR in the 70's went that way for a bit, until he realized the large Superfly-like from was dimishing the illusion of size.
Well, the kid did not lsiten to me.
He went with what HE wanted...not what the judges wanted.
And his placing suffered.
He now sees his errors and goes with corn-rows, although I think he should just shave it.
Kind of like the Kai Greene presentation.
Anyone else ever see this 'syndrome'?
