2008 Muscle Beach Grand Reopening Pictures

On Venice Beach on Saturday at 2pm, they dedicated the grand reopening of the workout area, in which Bodybuilding.com spent $40,000 of gym equipment, and Headblade provided the new flooring.  Here are some pics from the event.

Also, Jack LaLanne and Franco Columbu had their plaques added to the Bodybuilding Hall of Fame.

Jack is 93 years old, turning 94 in September.

Jack is just awesome. Amazing energy and sense of humor. I am not kidding when there were hundreds coming up to him to just shake his hand, and say hello. He has a new book out.

When Lonnie Teper and myself were doing an interview with him on video, he actually looked at Lonnie's goatee, and asked him "Does that tickle the girls?".

Franco has a nice hair transplant front hairline-but he looks pretty good for his age. Of cource he has to wear the "Franco Columbu-Mr. Olympia" polo shirt just in case no one recognizes him.

Moe? That is Abbas, of Pro Fight Supplements, who is sponsoring next week a boxing tournament on Venice Beach.  With him is Jerome Ferguson, who is pretty entertaining, especially when these women just come up to him and ask him if they can feel him and his arms (yes, I got that on video).

Dude, this is Venice Beach. You find the strangest, most interesting people on the beach. A stroll down Venice Beach is quite entertaining.

Ah... she was on the cover of Ironman Magazine before, and she won the even on Muscle Beach at one time too...  

The other people are representatives from Star Trac (the equipment in the pit).  And also that is Gene Mozee.

1977 Mr. USA Kent Kuehn in the background in a few shots. Nice!

Ken is a cool old cat. He's nuts, but he's cool.

We actually trained at Muscle Beach in April. I'm not too sure why they changed out the floor and equipment. Everything was fine. Anyhoo...

They also doubled the price from $5 a pop to $10 a pop.  >:(
