Personal Trainers and their useless exercises.
« on: May 22, 2008, 07:51:25 AM »
I seen this personal trainer at my gym
showing this 50-60 year old lady in my
gym doing bent over rows!

Now, if she actually had enough
weight on that bar, she would have
broken her back.

I have seen experienced or intermediate
bodybuilders use bad form.

who the heck would show a beginner,
a woman at that such a complicated
exercies.

He then after that had her doing.
squats on a see-saw board.

I couldn't believe my eyes,
Most are all show no go!

if you need a "personal" trainer to start , you're never going ot achieve anything on your own in the physical department.

In hindsight I wished I hired a personal trainer when I started lifting, I was doing alot of things wrong and nobody was really there to guide me.
So really if you're a beginner I would recommend a personal trainer just to show you the fundamentals of weight training and nutrition, as bodybuilding enthusiatics know knowledge about what you're doing is priceless and overall saves alot of time and money.

This one black personal trainer in my gym has old ladies and fatties of all sorts doing crunches. Dude grins like mad and tells them, "I'ma get yo stomach flat."

When he comes around to do his own workout in the evening, he makes jokes to everyone about how his clients will look the same 3 months later. Normally I hate personal trainers, but atleast this dude is honest.

a GOOD personal trainer, yes, but how many of these so called personal trainers with fake certifications are worth paying them to listen to their bullshits,  or even in shape ?

Any good friend who's knowledgeable could help you also, why PAY ? It's just beyond me.. there are millions of people looking better than 99% of personal trainers ...

Another thing, why can't you simply find the needed informations by yourself, it's free?

Nobody knows your body and how it works better than you, and nobody can do what you've got to do for yourself.

I thought that by the way you talk to everyone on here , saying things like "little twink" in every sentence to everyone, you would be a huge ripped 300 pounds monster;

but don't worry there's no doubt in my mind you're a skinny/fat loser who needs to waste his money on a PT cause you're just too fucking dumb to do it by yourself ,  hence your reaction to my post, but it's ok, losers need even bigger losers like you to make a living.

My point was that this lady was certainly doing the rows wrong.
She would have been better reading shape mag.

BINGO! My thoughts exactly. Those balls and the ropes, etc are ok if you are in Phys therapy rehab or if you need help with stablizers , for lateral movements in sports like tennis, b-ball or football, etc.
BUT, most want to tone up and get leaner, not try out for the NBA or NFL.
I give out tips when asked and don't mind showing some newbie how to use a machine, etc and I don't charge a dime.
A personal trainer is a good idea if they act like a personal coach and have your actual needs and concerns at the core of your fitness regime.

Well, then it really wasn't the exercise that was worthless, right?

It was the worthless PT who didn't use common sense!

I think when it comes to "worthless exercies", nobody beats NASM!!!  All these 24 hour fitness trainers talking about CORE this and STABALIZE that?! Please!

I've seen a trainer have a women (who's trying to lose weight, mind you) doing a one arm cable row, while curling a dumbell in her other arm, with one leg back on an exercise ball.................... ...WHAT THE?!?!?!   ::)
just not good enough

WE had one at my gym have this older,  heavy ,  guy ; doing lunges,WALKING UP THE STAIRS!!! with a fixed wt barbell on his back ( about 50 lbs ) . He was walking behind the guy as if to spot him and the guy was all wobbly.
Had the guy fell back he would have caused the trainer and him to just tumble down with barbell clanking.
I quietly took the gym manager aside and told him about this lawsuit waiting to happen.
He actually ran in, and pulled the trainer aside and made him have the guy do the lunges on the floor.
The trainer was pissed, but I think he realized he dodged a bullet.
