How Good will the West be Next Year?
« on: May 23, 2008, 02:58:15 PM »
The Lakers getting Bynum back

The Hornets and Utah gaining more experience.

The Spurs have 2 young athletic bigs coming next year.

Dallas and Phoenix may mesh since they barely put their teams together at the end of the year.

I think Golden State is going to be even better.

We may just be at the tip of the iceberg this year  :o

We'll see about Oden.  He was very good in college.  I guess every good college player who hasn't played in the NBA is all about hype until they get it done in the pros.

Bynum wasn't very good in the summer league either and was pretty average his first two years.

well what i have seen from Oden from footage is that he struggled, he dominated in college but there kids! im not going to hate on him so i wont talk bout it till i see him play a few more games.

bynum is still a work in progress, if he can pick up where he left off that would be a laker fan dream, thank god for gasol!!! what a steal...

Defensively, I think Oden will be very good.  Offensively, he really doesn't have to do much.  Check out the stats for NBA centers.  You won't find a lot of 20 and 10 centers.

Only three centers averaged 20 or more a game this season:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics?stat=nbascoring&league=nba&split=0&sort=pts&avg=pg&qual=true&season=2008&seasontype=2&pos=c

Only six centers averaged 10 or more rebounds:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/statistics?stat=nbarebound&league=nba&split=0&sort=totreb&avg=pg&qual=true&season=2008&seasontype=2&pos=c

I agree about Bynum and Gasol.  I'm almost more excited about next year than this year's playoffs.

I love seeing lots of really good teams in the NBA.  This was, by far, one of the best NBA seasons in a LONG time.  Even back when MJ was selling out arenas all over the country, only a handful of teams were competitive at all.

This is good stuff.

Oden will be a great defensive player. We'll have to see about the offense but from what they have now, I would be pretty excited to be a Portland fan.

i hope so, i predict he will lead the league in fouling out, i like him, he seems like a good guy, great character, as for Yao going to Chi-town, nah, just stupid, yao is coming off a huge operation, go for the Rookie.

Like I said it was more or less locker room talk. However if you think about it I wouldn't consider Yao a #1 pick worthy trade.. Duncan yes Yao no... kobe or lebron yes... Yao no.. I hope my bulls leave his ugly ass in houston to rot. I hope they take the hometown boy. I JUST PRAY HE ISN"T A BUST!!!

I am not sure about that.. I just hope they don't cut Noah for his latest fuck up. Kid reminds me of a smaller Big Ben who can score if he needs to. I just hope that we get someone who can help out.

I hate Yao, muther fucker is the asian manute bol. His game is okay and all, but I would rather lose again next year then pick up Yao. I just don't think he is as dominant as he should be, plus I am not a big fan of super tall super skinny Centers. Chop Block yao and break that dudes ankles someone?

You should look at his numbers.  Statistically, he has been one of the best, if not the best, centers in the NBA the past couple years (not counting injury-shorted 2008).

Centers are like HW boxing. they are a dying breed IMHO. Name 10 top centers. If you can? Yao is a top center cause most teams have switched to having better smaller players, makes for a faster paced  game. I miss the days of the dominant big guys banging it out for the boards and throwing each other around on the block.

Not really. Centers became Power Forwards for the most part.

It could be argued that Duncan and Amare (pre Shaq) pretty much run as the Center for their team.

I think most teams use the PF and C as interchangeable parts. I think the immobile Big Man is the dying breed.

LA - will stay extremely good. dont count on bynum though. if he does come back 100%, this will be the team to beat for a while.

hornets - no reason why they will be even better. one tweak/addition away from being the best team in the league.

spurs - replacing some departing veterans with fresh blood in the role player positions and we will continue to contend and piss off haters everywhere haha.

suns - will have a good regular season. then get stomped in the playoffs like every year. wont be a contender till they play defense, which they cant.

dallas - good regular season then will choke in the playoffs haha.

utah - too white to be impressive. needs to black up to truly contend.

houston - will die from injuries just like every year.

portland - unless Oden is the next tim duncan they wont be much.
