Dexter Jackson has finished among the top four in the last six versions of the Mr Olympia bodybuilding competition, including third spot in the 2007 competition, where Trinidad and Tobago's best professional, Darrem Charles, could only manage 12th place.

On Saturday, Jackson and Branch Warren, another top American pro bodybuilder, will be guest posers at the 13th annual Eastern Caribbean Body-building Championship, which is being held here for the second successive year. Starting time is 7 p.m. and admission is $125 (advance).

Competitors will be coming from Anguilla, Barbados, Grenada, St Lucia, St Maarten, St Vincent & the Grenadines and Puerto Rico.

Ronald Brooks, Damian George, Caretha Bruce, Winston Christian and Karen George have been included on the T&T team.

Last year, T&T had mixed results at the Eastern Caribbean Championship where Grenada were the big winners. Only Candice Carr was victorious among the bodybuilders, taking the overall women's title. George will be hoping to go a step further in the middleweight men's category where he was second last year. T&T's best showing at the 2007 championship came in the body-fitness competition where Michelle Alleyne and Tamara Bailey won their respective classes and Neil Diaz emerged as men's fitness champion.

Guest poser Jackson is considered one of the top bodybuilders in the world, and is unbeaten in 2008, winning all three tournaments he has competed in. Among Jackson's victories was the 2008 Arnold Classic. The other guest poser, Warren, has competed at the top level for several years and is best known for his huge legs.

LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT Ken Hensley of the US Virgin Islands and Trinidad and Tobago's Coretta Bruce emerged victorious at the Sportworld Classic Eastern Caribbean Bodybuilding Championships, at the Cascadia Hotel in St. Ann's, on Saturday night.

The highlight of the show, though, was the posing of top American bodybuilders Dexter Jackson and Branch Warren.

Jackson, 38, has won the Arnold Classic four times and has also finished among the top four in the last seven Mr Olympia competitions. Jackson said that when he started, he was a bantamweight weighing just 145 pounds, but with persistence he has built his body to 245 pounds.

"Keep going and one day you will probably make it as well," Jackson told the regional competitors. "I never thought that 1'd make it this far, but I did."

Warren, known for his enormous legs, said that consistency was the key to his success.

The 2008 edition of the Eastern Caribbean Championships was not as competitive as earlier versions, and saw several competitors-including overall women's champion Bruce-winning uncontested in their respective categories. T&T's Karen George was one of those, the lone entrant in the women's fitness open class incorporating an aerobics routine into her performance. And there were no challengers for defending champion "Spiderman" Neil Diaz of T&T in the men's fitness competition.

The most competitive action on the night came in the women's body-fitness tall class where T&T's Tamara Bailey Ribero was the best of the six competitors.

Middleweight Damian George gave a good showing, but the T&T bodybuilder had to settle for the runner-up spot for the second year running, beaten by Barbados' Anderson Bisphan. Also finishing second was T&T's Ronald Brooks, who ran into Hensley in the light-heavyweight division. Hensley won his weight category as well as the overall Mr Eastern Caribbean 2008 title, beating three other division winners-Barbados' Laron Gibson (lightweight) and Bisphan (middleweight) and Damion Daniel (heavyweight) of Grenada.

Exchange means thats is about $18 US, a very reasonable sum IMO.

Bodybuilding is very very popular in Trinidad, goverment sponsored, national champions gets free international trips, most shows sell out very quickly etc. Very good scene as far as bodybuilding goes there.

What exchange rate are you using? The EC is 2.5 ==$1, so that would be $50 USD

You are prolly using the East Caribbean dollar - thats about 2:1. T&T have their own currency.
