ufc 84 comments! *SPOILERS*
« on: May 26, 2008, 11:06:05 AM »
ok here's a few comments

penn vs sherk - not sure what sherks strategy was here, trying to exchange blows with bj who got a greater reach isnt that smart IMO

wand vs jardine - let's go to the centre of the octagon and exchange blows with wand, sounds like a gameplan

goran vs wilson - goran was predictable and easy to read. wilson fucked up. he should've won that fight! if only because then i would've got 9 outta 11 on the betting thread and won the show  ;)

machida vs tito - now that's a gameplan, machida fought a perfect fight leading up to where he almost got caught. tito was stiff, slow, nervous, predictable, limited & frustrated. that's the typical tito. he brings it outta the octagon, but not inside the octagon.

thiago vs mendes - got a little nervous there when mendes started out kicking like a bull. but thiago managed to recover pretty well. solid win for thiago.

palhares vs ivan - ivan is over the hill. palhares is built like a fucking tank and got a top level bjj game at that. looking forward to see much more of him.

soku vs nakamura. thought nakamura did pretty well in the first round until the end of it. didnt expect nakamura to get tko'ed (leg injury) he hasnt been since he fought wand in 2005 and wand was at the top of his game then. neither shogun or machida was able to finish nakamura when they fought him.

koppenhaver got nothing on yoshida!

shane's ko was textbook. that's a hard hitting mofo.

all in all - good card!

The three shots Sherk had for Penn were easily nullified.  Shooting would have made Sherk gas.  Obviously, BJ has the gas tank everyone maligned him for.  He will be tough to beat at any weight class if he shows up in shape.  Did anyone notice how Sherk hurt his hand in the second round on one of his counter punches?  BJ has a Cabbage like head as well.

Jardine needs to cover when throwing leg kicks.  He should have kept the distance on Wandy like he did Chuck.  Bad gameplan.

Wilson had this fight.  Needs more work with Howard Davis, why was he circling to Goran's left, right into the power arc of those vicious kicks.

Machida fought the perfect fight, if he had more time in the first, he may have got the stoppage when he had the crucifix.  Why did Tito let go of the triangle and transition to the armbar, that's how Lyoto got the escape.  Very exciting match, even though it went to a decision.

Silva is a beast, but so is Mendes stand up.  If Mendes had defended side control, he may have had a better chance at winning.  Once it got to the ground, good night.  Thiago showed he had a lot of heart, and a helluva chin.  He should be a beast, and someone most won't want to fight.  I'd like to see him go down to Middleweight.  Both he and Thales Leites will present some serious challenges to people.  Another good ATT fighter.  Liborio has a good thing going.

Palhares looked slick.  I know he has great wrestling, if you have ever seen Shaolin's 3D instructional day of Zen, you will see how Darrel Gholar has affected his wrestling.  If he can get his striking to match his wrestling and jits, look out.  Anyone who trains with Ze Mario will have a slick ground game.  Love that transition.

Yoshida had that brabo in tight.  War Machine needs to head to the WEC.

Kim showed some great judo beating a game Tan.

Carwin with a nice cross ftw.  Doesn't Christian train with Javier Mendez?  Chin up, hands down is not what "Thunder" would teach.

Rich Clementi was aggressive over a taller, lanky opponent in Etim.  Man that guy fights a lot.  Too bad we didn't get to see his slick bJJ game.

I don't know man. Sherk doesn't gas that easily. I expected Sherk to be much more aggressive. Trading blows with BJ with those short stocky arms, round after round, with BJ getting the better off them, bruising him up pretty bad...i thought he was risking getting a serious cut there for a moment, i would've hate to see something like that stop the fight. not sure what he was trying to accomplish with that.

I wonder if he underestimated Wand coming into that fight... maybe thinking he beat chuck and chuck beat wand... i expected him stay out of wands swinging and counter... also Wand looked a little smaller coming into the fight, i thought the difference between them size-wise would be bigger but in the staredown it wasnt that great.

I still cannot take jardine that serious, even though he has wins over both chuck and forrest. I just dont think he's on that top level. Wand on the other hand, looked good, killer instinct is still there. he's in shape. and he trains like an animal. have you seen the all access where he goes into a barrel full of ice at the end of his training session?!  :o

Ok if he get's kicked once or twice, but that was happening for way too long, he was at risk getting his arm messed up in the process, he would've end up like Frank Shamrock against Cung Le...  ;D Goran looked like a beaten man, but I gotta give him props for his will to finish the fight once he got the opportunity, some refs would've stopped it even earlier.

yeah he got him pinned down there pretty good, great to see someone that looks so much smaller like machida throwing tito around when you would've expect the opposite...

Looked very strong too, with that wrestling balance and positioning and the bjj skills and the muscle to put behind it... i need to see him against someone better than salaverry but an impressive ufc debut it was.
