Mcdonalds Tripple thick shake as an after workout drink
« on: May 30, 2008, 01:23:00 PM »
Yesterday after a good workout, and by good I mean walking out of the gym with nasua from dead lifts.  I was driving home, and wanted to get some protien.  There aren't any smoothy kings around my gym, so I stopped at mydonalds. I got a large ( 32 oz ) Chocolate shake, hoping it would have a decent amount of protein.  After drinking it I felt much better.  Once I got home I looked up the nutrition facts and was stunned.

The good news.  27 Grams of Protein.
The bad news.   1160 calories, 27g fat, 168g sugar

When I woke up this morning I felt like shit.

I really wish Mcdonalds would come up with a McWhey or something similar.

Go to www.calorieking.com The site will give you nutritional facts about most food items from most places. My wife was baffled at the nutritional facts listed for her "supposedly healthy" chicken ceasar pita minus dressing from Chili's. Loaded with fat!!!

I had a medium vanilla shake from Mickey-D's last week. I knew it would have sugar in it, but hot damn, not as much as Calorie King says it does. Their apple pies are surprisingly low in sugar, though.

unless you are dieting hardcore for a show etc..---you need some sugars with your whey after a hard workout

that insulin spike is your friend after lifting weights

well i really think it depends on what kind of person you are..

if ou have a super fast metabolism and you cant put on weight easily...then yeah load up on sugar after the workout alogn with your whey...

but i think the average person has no need to drink sugar right away..waiting untill you get home to have a big bowl of oatmeal or soemthing like it would be just fine....

protein synthesis is jacked to the max post workout... and when insulin is low then igf-1 will be high and youll get a gh release too (gh isnt releases in a high insulin enviroment)... so protein only post workout is just fine....

Ive dieted down to 6-7% before-----spider veins everywhere------just did it for myself---Im not into "competing"

i found the sugars after I workout didnt hurt my progress and Im the type of guy who has a slow metabolism------If I dont eat very clean I get fat easy-----when I was getting real low in bf I was keeping my carb intake to 3 times a day 1) morning 2) before training 3) after training--- some days I went higher some lower  but generally kept them low

Ive found that i can actually keep my carbs higher if they are real clean-----ive made teh mistake of going to low for too long before

Ive known plenty of guys who still used the insulin spike even deep into their contest diet----try it bro

since at that point you've increased your metabolism through dieting, cardio, lifting etc so your body has adapted and is no longer in its "storage" or "hibernation" mode------not saying this is scientific or even really that accurate of a statement but I have noticed this effect on myself and others so their is something there

perhaps its a rebound effect after being in such a carb and calorie definicent state

it seems like I learn something new everytime I diet down------I love the process

im dieting now...

one thing i learned this time around, other than just a whole new way of dieting ( zero starch, lean protein, high green veggies, high omega -3 ...carbs at 100g second to last meal every third day)

one thing i learned is when i carb up every three days...goo idea to pound a isopure or some liquid egg whites right before eating the carbs... to take advantage of the insulin and carbs and GROW GROW GROW...

what i have been doing is this

100 grams rice cripies (zero fat ! ) with zero fat milk, with cinnamon and splenda... thats my carbs...and right before i wolf that down i either drink an isopure  or liquid egg whites (40 fat free grams of protein either way) along with 1 gram of ALA and two caps fish oil...

I would say once you get down to a bf you want to be at----increase your clean carbs (brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal etc..I dont need to tell you the good ones, dont worry about counting your broccoli etc as carbs) eat them with every meal except prior to bed-----dont get all carb phobic as some people do (ive been guilty of this as well)

you will fill out like a mother fucker and get some crazy crazy pumps------you'll stay lean but will put on a good deal of muscle

ive been as high as 70-80grams of carbs a meal for 5 meals a day and stayed real real lean and just filled out tremendously-----

dont be afraid of good carbs once you're lean bro----ive made that mistake before
