Classic Bodybuilding (for women) coming later this year??
« on: June 01, 2008, 02:22:45 PM »

Give us your thoughts on this post I just read on another forum:

"So in an effort to bring back some spectators and more importantly competitors into FBB a new class has been established and will be implemented this year. (I am sorry if this has been posted, I stop in once or twice a week, so I am sure I miss many posts).

The new class is going to be called "Classic Female Bodybuilding" and will have weight limits for each height class. This is to make sure you dont have the typical mass monsters entering, which many fans of bodybuilding do not like. And we are not considering schmoes fans of the sport. But many women have made the transition to figure as they do not want to gain the level of muscle necessary to win shows. This hopefully will bring many of the more muscular figure competitors back into the game.

The first show to have this class be in November, we were talking about so many different shows I may have this one confused (so i will find out what contest for sure and get back). A select few girls have been invited to compete. So maybe the era of Cory E will come again, they always say history repeats itself!"

Hopefully true - those monsters have to disappear.
But - which chicks will stay in the normal ranks... monster like Ivette, Iris, etc?
No more cheap excuses like "...the jugdes are forcing us to be so big"
.

We're falling behind in the discussion.

Don't let GetBig get a reputation for being anti-female bodybuilders!   ;D

Aw, damn!!  Blast of the year (so far) to Lift.

That rates a solid 8 on the Richter against me....nice work!

He's been in meltdown mode lately over the 'NPC regulations', so he got scooped on this proposal and started trying to douse this FIRE!

Figure is going back to bikini, man.  So, that opens the door for another division with muscle.

Why would you post this?

Me or Big Mike?

If me, my post is in line with my desire to get the conversation going.  Keeping the discussion going gives the decision-makers more to think about...and more reasons to make it happen. :)

THe question was to you....the point being, what credible source did this come from?

Personally, I think the idea is ridiculous...

Tasty first reported on Unreal that the wheels were definitely in motion.

Then Dave Palumbo started a thread about it on MD.

Then Mindspring got a thread about it going on Mayhem.

Then promoter Randy Leppala confirmed on Mayhem that a buddy of his (an NPC official) was, in fact, part of a committee currently researching the efficacy of such a plan.

Figure is going bikini - this new proposal gets more trained, conditioned physiques back to the stage.

So, the answer is....there is no credible source.

Just what I figured..

Classic...

Stop, you!   >:(

Now it's all about selecting women from the current pro figure and bodybuilding ranks who might possibly be right for a new division.

I don't think this is a good idea.
I think that judging for figure should become more clear and standardized so that everyone understands what a figure competitor should look like, and I think that the judging in FBB should shape the direction of FBB.

Judging could move FBB back to the "classic" look pretty quickly if the decisions were clear and consistent throughout both the amateur AND Pro ranks.  If mass monsters are not rewarded, then competitive FBBs will not show up looking like mass monsters.

They first said about two years ago that they wanted more of a 'bikini contest' look for figure and that's what is now happening at the national level.  For the past several pro qualifiers, the best conditioned athletes have complained about being placed down.

It's not about 'clearing up the judging' for figure - they are telling you that they want a completely different physique type onstage in figure...one that is markedly softer than anything most of us would consider a 'physique' at all.

A significant number of competitors, fans, and judges like the mass, which is why it has almost always been rewarded in pro bodybuilding.  So, they're going to let bodybuilding be what it is and then figure will be their bikini contest, while the classic division will be for those who have muscle, yet would not be big enough to compete at the national or pro levels.

I still don't like it.  I am not comfortable enough with the consistency associated with the judging standards for either figure or FBB to be able to support the addition of yet another division.

We have weight classes in FBB, at least at the amateur level, so I don't understand what the additional division would acheive.  What would be the difference between a Lightweight FBB (under 115 or 118 pounds) and a "classic" lightweight FBB?   ::)

I compete at under 115 pounds, hard and shredded.   8)  SO where would I fit in?  Would FBB just be for the big girls, and would I be forced to compete in "classic"?

Would there be "classic" at the Pro level too?  How about just starting back with weight classes in all of the Pro shows? - maybe even a LW, MW, and HW.

:)

I think it sounds good in principle, but like Rip said why not change the judging and work the what we have now?

We already have 3 female divisions - moving up to 4 means reduced class numbers, prize money if pro ranks starts, reduced prestige as 25% more titles etc.

you dont think that what drives women t become huge and muscular is not psychological? i nthink it most definitely is

markus ruhl and other mass monsters wouldnt have tried to get smaller and more aesthetic ... not in 2005 when the new "mandate" came acrosss..

bodybuilders, whether male or female, all have an ideal which they personally are working to achieve..

i dont think bodybuilding is a sport like football or baseball where the players just want the championship

its more than that

the females who are MASSIVE and look like men arent going to change that because they want to earn the 500 dollar prize  ;D
