Squeeze your own oranges and grapefruit. That's what I do when I want juice!

well if by low gi they are referencing how the fructose effects iinsulin levels then sure fructose is low gi... but your juice is very RAPIDLY DIGESTED in the form its in...fruits hyave a low glycemic load because there sugars are tied up in complex webs of fiber that slows digestion down...take out the fiber (juice ) and you have nothing to slow digestion....

but fructose shouldnt bump insulin

which can be good or bad

in this case..fructose (if that is all that is contained in  the oj.. which im sure there is some glucose to.. probably like 50/50 id imagine.) well fructose is VERY easy to spill over with... because it ca only supply the liver with glycogen and once liver glycogen is full the remainder stores as body fat. and the lliver is pretty dang small and it only takes a small amount of fructose to fill up liver glycogen before it spills over.

I don't think you should "avoid" but limit your consumption.  It is very sugary.   Having a juicer would be a better alternative.  I think I just convinced myself to buy one!

Eat an orange instead.  You'll get the pulp and fiber, which are filling.  It takes more oranges(more calories) to make one glass of OJ, and you don't get the pulp and the fiber, and it's not filling.

1 Orange is more or less 80 calories depending on the type and size, has healthy fiber and it's filling.

1 glass of OJ is more or less 115 calories, has no fiber and it's not filling.

Just my 2 cents...I use OJ with protein powder and a fiber supplement as an MRP.  I don't have time to screw with an orange. (Wow, almost had a Kai Greene moment there...) Worrying about the sugar in OJ is a bit over the top unless you're getting contest-ready.

i disagree i dont think there is any reason at all to ever drink fruit juice.  just my personal opinion. maybe it works okay for guys with super quick metabolisms that are constantly burning right through their entire liver glycogen for some reason...

I say it's ok but limit the consumption.  I probably have one glass a day or every other day.
