horse racing is all about drugs. not just steroids, but things like cobra venom, milkshakes (baking soda and water) and pretty much anything that will give your a horse an edge. thats why alot of tracks for big races (breeders cup, etc)will institute a drug barn where NO ONE will have access to the horses for a period of 24 hours to clean them out.
that being said dutrow (big brown's trainer) has several suspensions for violating drug policies in that sport. if you are ever going to bet a horse, play an angle where dutrow has picked a horse up off a claim, has worked him a couple of times since picking him up in the month or two he's had him- track fractions don't matter all you want to see is that he's being worked- (or even second off the the layoff is a good angle with him too) and key that horse on your ticket and it'll run out it's skin.
