i don't have a PS3 as well (yet).

MGS is a game that sells over a longer period of time, it's sort of a must-have of video games and will be a reason to buy a PS3 for many.

I'm not sure.  Analysts have so far concluded that GTA IV was not a console seller for either the PS3 and XBox 360, and that title is almost 3x as big as MGS.

MGS is my favorite series ever, but it really is a niche franchise when compared to games like GTA and Halo.

You want a real game, COD4 or Gears of War.  MGS4 is crap.  I've seen plenty of gameplay videos on it, boring in a box.  I know it's a stealth/action game, but even the voice overs/shooting are cheese to the max.  Just goes to show, you get enough geeks in your corner, you can milk that title for years.  The amount of drawn out hype surrounding this, is laughable.  PS3, they take 2x as long to put a game out and it's usually shit.  Gears 2 will be shipping in 5 months and the PS3 came out a year prior..haha  PS3<360...I have a PS3 for blurays or in case, they decide to make a decent game in the next 3 years..haha

I think I agree with you on GTAIV but I do wanna check out Metal Gear.  But you're probably gonna be right.  You know some of these franchises just get so huge that they brainwash the public into thinking their next installment "must" be good because they've got all the advertising dollars that say it.  Like the Simpsons movie.  That thing came out virtually unopposed by critics and so did GTAIV but were either of these things actually "fun" or "good?"  Maybe not but people just kinda accept them as such.  Like Jay-Z since the Black Album...it's been all shit but nobody's really came out and said it yet.

McFarland - I hope you've played 1, 2 and 3 before you try 4.  I think it wont make any sense without it.

I agree with Croatch about GTA and that GOW2 will rule but Halo's only over-hyped in the campaign mode.  The multiplayer is what this game is all about, and it's fantastic, and constantly being updated with new gametypes and maps.  The community is the downside of it.

I can't say MGS4 is going to be crap.  Kojima got the series back on track with MGS3 after a somewhat disappointing 2.  Plus, the storyline has been amazing, and I need to know what happens to Snake.

yeah lived there a while...Lets just say you find out why the suicide rate is so high there....Tons of money to be made there though, with a good physique....Guys going over there and get gigs on commercials, magazines ect...I personally knew many alpha males over there that spent a year or two and came back with six figures...

I got games I still need to beat before I pick up MGS4. Ninja Gaiden 2 got me stuck at chapter 12 on warrior level and GTA4 is kinda ongoing. Its cool in Japane they get the silver 80GB system bundle.

Zelda has no replay value but is one of my all time favorites. RE has plenty of replay and 2 and 4 were the best. RE5 is going to be amazing. Can't wait till Capcom works on DMC5

The reason a lot of ads are done in English in Japan is for the "cool" factor. It adds to the "mystique" and appeal...the majority of Japanese cannot hold a simple conversation in English, but they are pretty good at reading/comprehension/listening (to a degree). If you watch the actual previews of MGS4 here in Japan, the voices are all in Japanese...and they sound God-awful/cheesy. It is kinda funny seeing a western face pull off a stereotypical macho Japanese voice, though.

I agree with COD4 but its better on PC though.. It's funny you say "same old crap".  Very true, but isn't every game?  Other than GOW.  COD4, shoot people, get killed...repeat 1000x.  Every game is repetative and not that groundbreaking in concept.  It's just a matter of doing the same thing, but very well, that separates a great game.
All the fanboy geeks for GTAIV on IGN/Gamespot, gave it a 10...laughable.  The graphics alone are an 8 at best.  How do you get a 10 rating?
Ninja Gaiden II, not amazing, but damn pretty when the framerate doesn't dip.  Crappy camera angles many times.  In the end, it's pretty decent.

Halo 3 implements multiplayer very well, but the whole...shoot someone 5x for a kill, really gets old quick.  Graphically, it does nothing that impressive.  It's basically for Star Trek geeks.  Tell me it doesn't seem like a child's game compared to Gears of COD4...haah

Well, I'm not fan of Halo either. Never understood the big fascination with it.


COD4 is great. But there are a few things that need to be fixed. It's funny, cause I haven't even beaten the 2nd mission, just the first. All I've done since I got it is play online.

Croatch - you're so right on about GTAIV.  It's a nicer looking San Andraes with the same old flaws.  Unlike series like MGS, I bet it's more fun for those who haven't played the prior versions.

H3 graphics are pretty damn good.  You won't truly appreciate them until you pour through a played game, matrix style, with the free floating camera.  You can produce same really impressive screenshots, and see the sick detail that was put into this game.
