Kids and energy drinks
« on: June 18, 2008, 10:18:42 AM »
What is up with kids these days drinking all those energy drinks?  Seems like every kid I see is drinking Monster, Red Bull or something of that nature.  I've heard them say "cuz it tastes good"  ::)  I've seen them as young as 11-13 years old  ???

id prfer a kid dirnking some caffine rather than eating skittles and potatoe chips with their mcdonalds fries and mountain dew..

i have got two nephews both are abot 8... both have cellulite on the stomachs and chests and fatty tissue all over their soft wrinkled upper bodies...     its ufucking disgusting that their parents (my sisters) let their young kids eat themselves into this  aat such a young age... i fear they have already metabolically destroyed themselves...

We are raising a generation of future coffee addicts.  Before Energy Drinks it was Mountain Dew with all the caffiene and sugar.  Its only a matter of time before you start finding Starbucks in high schools and elementary schools.  For some kids just a little caffiene can help them focus on the homework and whats important.  Others bounce off walls.  If the kids are fat its most likely the parents to blame.

Maybe that won't be such a bad thing.  Maybe high caffeine consumption has a positive effect on fitness and education.  ;D

Take Seattle, Washington for example:

"Seattle is the birthplace of grunge music[11] and has a reputation for heavy coffee consumption;[12] coffee companies founded or based in Seattle include Starbucks,[13] Seattle's Best Coffee,[14] and Tully's.[15] There are also many successful independent artisanal espresso roasters and cafes.[12] Researchers at Central Connecticut State University ranked Seattle the most literate city of America's sixty-nine largest cities in 2005 and 2006 and second most literate in 2007.[16] Moreover, analysis conducted in 2004 by the United States Census Bureau of 2002 survey data indicated that Seattle was the most educated large city in the U.S. with 48.8 percent of residents 25 and older having at least bachelor degrees.[17]"

"In 2005, Men's Fitness magazine named Seattle the fittest city in the United States.[161]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle#Demographics

Jan. 6, 2005

SEATTLE - Must be something in the coffee. Seattle has been named the fittest city in the United States in the February issue of Men’s Fitness magazine, leaping past the buff competition from Honolulu, Colorado Springs, San Francisco and Denver.

Exercising faithfully and shunning fast food boosted Seattle to the top from No. 6 last year, Men’s Fitness Editor in Chief Neal Boulton said.

“Eighty-five percent of Seattle residents get some exercise every month, and that’s a really significant thing,” Boulton said. The city’s jittery love affair with espresso might fuel some of that activity, he noted: “There’s not only a lot of it, it’s pretty darn strong.”

What is missing from our education system is a Starbucks in every classroom.

Nah, I was just kidding about the possible link between these.  The truth is probably that people who are serious about their education get addicted to caffeine in college after using it to stay up studying and to stay awake in class.  Also people who are more active and serious about fitness probably choose coffee shops over restaurants to hang out and talk to friends.  I did read somewhere that Seattle has more coffee shops than fast food restaurants or something like that.

Crazy..Here in Florida, a few kids downed Redline before taking the FCAT (A Florida's Standardized Test).
They each chugged down a few. They ended up in Hospital.

So to nullify the effects of the caffeine, did the hospital serve them booze?

Because it gives you expresso levels of caffeine without the bitter taste of coffee, so kids like it. You don't need to a rocket scientists to comprehend this simple concept.

I know South American kids as young as 5 years old drink coffee, yeah with lots of milk and sugar.  I did and I turned out just fine....I think.  It's more like adding coffee and sugar to milk.     ;D

Half-ton of premium coffee beans stolen in Hawaii

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii - Police in Hawaii say a thief got his caffeine fix when he made off with more than 1,000 pounds of Kona coffee beans.

Police say the beans were taken from a home sometime between May 27 and May 29. The beans were in 100-pound burlap bags.

Police are asking the public to report anyone trying to sell green coffee beans.

The Kona area of Hawaii's Big Island is famous for its premium coffee beans.

No reason?  You're talking about stupid kids abusing caffeine, and you're a stupid kid abusing steroids!  Doesn't seem like you're one to be judging anybody does it?

My favorite thing in the world when I was a child was coffee... I drank coffee from a very early age and used to make "coffee milk" all the time with instant coffee when I was young... like 5 or 6 years old.  I turned out OK so far....I think.   :D

I would worry less about the caffeine and much more about the other substances and stimulants in the energy drinks.  Yohimbine, etc. can be taxing on the heart over time, I would imagine...probably not a good idea to promote long-term use starting in children.

:)
