About 46 seconds into the ad, we are told that Obama “passed laws” that “extended healthcare for wounded troops who’d been neglected,” and in the usual manner of these political commercials we are given a little citation at the bottom. The citation reads “Public Law 110-181 1/28/08”. That law is the only federal legislation cited in the ad — the other two items mentioned were from the Illinois legislature and referred to other issues raised in the ad.

Public Law 110-181 was the 2008 defense authorization bill. It passed the Senate by 91 to 3 in January, with six Senators not voting. Among those six absentees was Barack Obama. So he cites a bill he didn’t even vote for. Did he contribute to it in some way that might be reasonably referred to as extending healthcare for wounded troops who’d been neglected? It certainly doesn’t seem that way, as even Obama supporters at the Daily Kos discovered when they tried to answer some of the bloggers who pointed to Obama’s citation of the bill. They found that Obama had tried to insert an amendment that had to do with screenings for service members returning from deployments, and one that would ease the discharge of service members found to have personality disorders, but neither amendment passed. Another part of the bill, calling for inspector general reports about hospital facilities, had come from a different bill Obama had sponsored.

Both of them suck, but you honestly think McCain is a better choice? :o

My lines......i guess u don't understand Mulsim cultural. His dad was a Muslim, he's a muslim. He was registered as a muslim at his schools in HA. He studied in a muslim school. He converted 20 years ago. I could care less....the facts don't support this guy being anything but a half assed lawyer. He made that race card speech and mentioned these things himself.

sonofabitch you guys are whiners about minutiae.

Like with most Obama whining, the subject matter is likely to be untrue.

A lie is a lie. Did you even read any of the posts or are you just regurgitating a generic response? Get off the man's penis, hypocrite.

You know, it really cracks me up. You're the same shithead calling for murder charges against Bush for lying and now you're trying to sweep Obama's lies under the rug. HYPOCRITE.  :D

Get lost Eldon/Ozark.

I would have a substantive discussion with you but I can't b/c you act like a fucking 5 year old.  Your statements are so absurd and devoid of meaning that it is difficult to take you seriously.

When you whine, do you piss your pants too?

Forget that question.  Do you know what it's like to be kicked in the head...with an iron boot?

Forget that one too.

Nice meltdown. Usually happens to those who can't defend their positions.

Enlighten me. You want Bush to be tried on murder charges for lying. Now Obama's been caught in a bold faced lie. But that's ok to you. Makes sense. I think the nickname "Shithead" is more fitting for you than hypocrite. You can't even defend yourself now, you're just attacking.

Is it ok to lie or not? By your logic, it is ok, as you're defending Obama lying. Using that same logic, you should delete all your posts calling for Bush to be brought up on murder charges for lying.

I can't even defend myself so I'll just attack.  You are devastating in your criticism.

I'm not admitting any lie took place on Obama's part.  But for your sake, we'll say he lied his ass off about extending the healthcare plan.

How is that the same as Bush's methodical lying about IRaq's threat to the US in order to get the US in a murderous, trillion dollar boondoggle?

Are they the same thing?  Are all lies equal?  Does intentionally taking a country to war under false pretenses equate with a misstatement about a vote?

So your opposed to one lie (Bush and the war) but not opposed to another boldfaced lie that someone uses to win support for an election?

Guess all lies are not created equal.

I would be more scared of someone using lies before even tasting power, than someone who has power and is using them to "distort" the truth rather than to blatantly rollover the truth.

Bush and his people lied in a sytematic, methodical manner over months and months, manufacturing evidence (white papter of 10.2002 NIE) beating the drum for war.  When Bush ordered the invasion, he sent 4000 americans to their deaths.  The attack killed over 100,000 Iraqis.

Yeah, I guess that's much better than Obama's statement about some in absentia vote on extending healthcare benefits.

Are you serious?

Are you serious?

Are you?

Someone lying before general election, has more to lose than someone already in office.

Sounds and looks like Obama is full of lies that keep snowballing out of control.

What will you say when his lies amount to 100, 000 american lives suffering from failed policies and dazzled talk of change and hope, when he lies about all the issues in front of him.

What will you sau when he flip flops on his decisions to drill in the U.S. (It's coming up before the general election)

Are these lies change? Do they promise us hope?

Are you serious?

What is done is done, only look to the future.

Well over 100,000 people are dead b/c of Bush's lies and you have the audacity to compare that to a statement about healthcare.

Have you no sense of proportion?

Then you get into wishful thinking:

Thank god I don't have the burden of wishing such a thing with Bush b/c he's actually killed over 100,000 people.

Let's see, a politician may have lied about his voting record while campaigning for public office

....let's call the national guard.  This travesty cannot stand.

There is no proportion in your argument.

First off, 100,000 people are dead because Iraqis decided they would start rounding up their neighbors of the opposite Muslim sect and killing them. No one in America told them to start killing each other. Secondly, could you look like any more of an asshole? Bush is a piece of shit, no doubt about it. But you look like a whiny little twat by trying to brush off Obama's lies and justifying it. The guy's not even elected and he's already getting caught in lie after lie. What's to say he's not lying about everything else he's been claiming? Use a little logic. He's no better than Bush.

Not very reassuring.  Definitely some deception in that ad if those are the facts.
I just see Obama as a lot of slogans and ideals with the socialistic utopian dreams.
I am extremely fearful of what he's going to do to small business.  Big government with more taxes and regulation is a killer for small businesses (which employ the majority of American people).

You mean like what Wal-mart has done to small businesses?

Or Best Buy to small computer repair businesses?

Or the disappearance of main street America?

I see small business has been taking in the ass for sometime.

Can you tell us what more Obama can do that large corporations aren't already doing?

This has peaked my interest as a self employed small business owner.

Why do you even bother?  How can anyone argue with you?  The 100,000+ dead Iraqis are dead b/c...they just are.  The goshdarn civil war was bound to happen.   What did the US invasion have to do with it?  The US removed all organization when it attacked.  It opened the civil war like a chestnut.

I really can't believe you tried to make this point.

Like I said, your opinion has no sense of proportion at all.

You equate an alleged misstatement about a voting record during a campaign with Bush's time-worn systematic lies which brought this country to war under false pretenses.

Why don't you just stop while you are woefully behind?

oh cool... I got worried that he did something really fucked up.  In an era of passes given to GW for major criminal lies, this fib isn't much to look at.  Thanks GW!!!  provisions from some of his bills did make it into that bill so he did some work there.  He should fire the guys who did it and check the next ad better.

The one thing that has concerned me for a long time is the dissappearnce of small family owned business.  I realize places like Wal-mart give consumers an availability to provide cheaper prices and by the rule of business they are effectually squashed any competition on the level of small business.  This bothers me.

There used to be a family hardware store in the town i live in.  People had been working there for years.  The atmosphere and friendliness was sincere, not contrived like you get a wal-mart.

Aside from Napa and San Francisco, there are very few good places to eat food.  Why?  Because small restaurants cannot compete with places like Olive Garbage.

Now is that a republican thing or a democrat thing?  Because in the last 16 years Main Street America has virtually disappeared.
