an actor like Will Ferrell, hes' fairly well known but he aint no superstar, he's no tom cruise. yet he gets 20 million US dollars per movie!!

thats pretty incredible. most of his films goes straight to video in europe i imagine.

Most of them make over $100 million here, so he gets paid accordingly. Not like anyone cares about Europe anyway.

No.

That's more than Tobey Maguire got paid for Spiderman and Spiderman 2 combined - and they made $800 million - each!
And it's twice as much as Johnny Depp got for Pirates of the Caribbean: Black Pearl that made over $650 million.
And that's just in theaters.

And those movies were way, way more expensive to make.

They get paid on a proportion of sales. Seeing as Spider-Man and Pirates were gigantic blockbuster series, it makes sense to pay them less. They probably made 30+ million on those movies. Ferrel gets 20 million but probably sees 10 from ticket sales.

A lot of what a actor makes on a movie depends on the deal they (agent) make with the producers.  Some actors produce their own movies and make a killing.  I heard Adam Sandler does that.

Will Farrell Earning 20 million and toby only earning 10 milliion?   I bet Kristin Dunst got 10 million for her role.

nah according to imdb he doesnt, they usually write when actors get a percentage etc

like tom cruise:

War of the Worlds (2005)    (20% profit participation)
The Last Samurai (2003)    $25,000,000 + % of profits

Well, consistency is a factor too.
A movie with Tobey probably can generate more income, but the chance it bombs is also higher.

With Ferrell, you know what you'll get. A risk-free investment is usually quite attractive so thats why he gets paid a lot.

That's the winner right there.

i'd say it's a sequel to spiderman that's the risk-free investment after the first one was a success.

Plus, as someone eluded to earlier, You star in one major box office hit, you usually don;t get paid big until your next movie.  Now in Toby's case, he might have sign an agreement as to how much he was going to make on sequels when he signed up for Spiderman 1.  And besides what else has he done?

Look at Will Farrell, Adam Sandler.

Arnold, held (still holds?) the recors for the highest BASE salary in movie history. He did that twice actually. Got a base fee of $30 million fot T3. So add to that the % he would have gotten from ticket sales and so forth, and he would have made a pretty penny 8)
No doubt about it...

Arnold had the longest runs of movies to "not flop"... Starting with Conan... Every movie he made grossed 100 Million plus in the box office, right up until he did "The Last Action Hero".

Not a bad run there.

Oh, no. Will Ferrell sucks. I'm surprised his movies gross $100 million. The only movies I like where he's the main character are Anchorman and Talladega Nights. He was pretty funny in Wedding Crashers too.

Talladega Nights was his absolute best effort...  Semi-Pro was decent... His bit in Wedding Crashers was hilarious though.

He's a pretty funny guy.

Talladega Nights was good.
Old school was his best i think.
Anchorman was ok.

I'm having the feeling Blades of Glory and Semi-pro will suck... I think he would be best in a more supporting role. Like in Old school or wedding crashers. His style is a bit too silly to carry a whole film.

Pretty funny speech: i watched the whole thing (five parts)
