The killer of the 21-year old victim dropped off the child with family then committed suicide in Lee County, FL
Prayers for the little girl. Local media reports the families are now fighting over her.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday found Georgia slaying suspect Darnell Lauture dead of an apparent suicide.
At 6:57 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle blocking a loading dock of a vacant business near the Jamaica Bay community in south Fort Myers. The vehicle, a 2004 Hyundai Sonata GL, matched the description of Lauture’s car and displayed a Georgia license plate.
“It looked like he took a hose that ran from the exhaust pipe inside the car,” said Sgt. Larry King with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Lauture, 23, was wanted in connection with the death of his wife of two years, Stacey, 21, in Newnan, Ga.
Stacey Lauture’s father, Michael Dunbar of Cape Coral, said he was saddened by Lauture’s death and was grieving for the Lauture family. Dunbar did not want Darnell Lauture to receive the death penalty in Georgia, rather sit on trial and sit in prison to think about his actions.
“I wanted him to man up,” Dunbar said. “He committed a capital offense against my daughter, and I wanted an answer from him.”
Dunbar and Stacey Lauture had gone two years without speaking to each other, but just reconnected three weeks ago. He was unaware that his daughter was a victim of domestic violence as Stacey was reluctant to come forward to authorities or her dad.
“She was so ashamed to tell me about it,” Dunbar said.
Stacey Lauture is being cremated, but the family is planning a local memorial service.
