It's so obvious, I see them all the time and the funny thing Is until i checked my head I probably did the same
mistake for a while too.
But since a couple of years when I had my shoulder injury (probably due to to heavy sideraise ::) ) I use very light weight.

You can feel the difference immediately, if you take lighter weight hold the weight in perfect form and fight the momentum to drop the weight
the effects are much greater if you use your whole body to jerk the weight up.

How many of you see the same thing happen in your gym?

See it all the time.

99% of males tend to chose a weight much to heavy for them and then start throwing the weight up in the air and stop it on their legs when it comes down. Most bend their arms to use even more weight and also move their upper body back and forth to swing it better.

99% of females use a weight like 1 or 2 kg, much to low. then they go on with 10-12 reps. Watching them, you see it's not heavy at all for them, but 100% of them "do not want the ugly Schwarzenegger-look".  ::)

side raise: most misunderstood exercise of all.

But i have  noticed that it is extreme when doing any db excersise for shoulders, any other muscle group and you kind of away by using
too heavy weight, not by shoulders.

same here 33 years old better shape than wen I was at 20 I tend to use lighter weights as well, it makes more sense, unless
you enjoy lifting heavy and see it as a challange.

but will light weight for medium/ high reps add size to one´s shoulder? or its just more to 'define' what you already have?

sorry, but i have to admit the same guys that use horrible form and bigger weights are usually the ones with the bigger shoulders...

No, light weight will probably not add size if you do it in the beginning of the WO.

That's why you do other exercises with heavier weight for shoulders, like shoulder presses etc.

side raises should be done after that.

sorry guys, normally i totally agree with using light enough weigh todo the exercise under total control...but on sid laterals i HAVE to go heavy or i dont get shit out of it. maybe my shoulders are just strong..idk..    whats "heavy" for you guys on side lateral/upright rows/rear db laterals/front raises(palms down) ?

Exactly, everybody is under the impression that you have to feel the burn in order to grow, if this is the case then lets hold the weight out without moving for 5 minutes then your arms will be burning but no growth. If someone is geting 10 reps with 65 pounds with a little swing, by going down to thirty  with perfect form and feeling the burn for 15 WILL NOT built more muscle, sorry.

If you suffer a full rot cuff tear...it will be very unlikely that you will ever press above head or for pecs again

Yea thats a scary thought.  You gotta be careful with shoulder stuff.  You can end your lifting days in an instant

i agree 100% !

i dont think people understand that good form doesnt necessaril mean you cant swing a little..     in  fact on certainn exercises like pulldowns and seated cable rows i would say "good form" necessitates a little bit of swingage...otherwise your gonna be doing all biceps and no back...  the same fo side delts... your too strict your just gonna be hittin traps

4 full tears, both shoulders for me.

Thank you.

Yes, the body thrives on regularity.

Give it what it has always expected.

I can fool myself and aver that I train like I did 20 years ago...but I don't come close. Much compromise.

i don't see anything wrong with alittle sway to get the weight up on the last few reps but not the all out swinging you see some guys do

very interesting I think I might have a rotator cuff tear.  Im unable to do any shoulder presses above my head over 30 lbs and if I do incline press I have to supinate my arms at the top. Also if I dont warm up it feels like I have a sand dial in my shoulder.

Larry Scott was a big beleiver in cheating up big weights on his laterals and look how "tiny" his delts were.  ::)

Bottom line: if you think super strict 25lb laterals are going to build any muscle you are fucking delusional.

There are these clowns at my gym that were trying to side raise 50s today. The only thing is they were getting it about a foot, no joke, a foot away from the side of their bodies and calling it a set. so mad
