UPDATE: The Times responds:

Neither Steinberg nor Reddicliffe were reachable for comment Wednesday. But Times Culture Editor Sam Sifton called the Fox photo work “disgusting,” and the criticism of the paper’s reporting “a specious and meritless claim.”

“It wasn’t a hit piece,” Sifton told E&P. “It was straight news. This was a hit piece by Fox News. It is beneath comment.” Asked if the paper planned to respond to Fox’s actions, he said no: “It is fighting with a pig, everyone gets dirty and the pig likes it.”

What's most interesting is that anyone who defends this distortion is saying to the world "I like to be deceived by the news programs that I watch" They won't mind the next time they're lied too. They'd prefer it actually.

Yeah they screwed up....the LA times did the same thing awhile back....Newsweek lied and caused riots in Afghanistan....the NYT launches hit pieces all the time....the list is endless.

I didn't see the "doctored" photos when Fox originally aired this 3:00AM (or whatever time nobody is watching TV) show.

Media Matters doctored the pictures themselves and then claimed Fox News did it.

Media Matter is as trustworthy as captured terrorist who knows we can't torture his ass.
