MMA star Andrei Arlovski, the former UFC heavyweight champion from Belarus, has been training for a boxing career under the tutelage of trainer Freddie Roach. Arlovski, who has an MMA bout July 19, likely will make his professional boxing debut Sept. 13 (HBO PPV) in the opening fight on the Casamayor-Marquez card in Las Vegas, according to Golden Boy.

I think he'll do well. He's extremely light on his feet and athletic to make the transition.

As far as having a glass jaw, he's now fighting with 12 oz. gloves.

More money, more recognition, more exposure, and a good trainer in Freddy Roach. Smart business move for him.

Now he just needs to prove he can compete against world class fighters. Roach wouldn't train just anybody if he didn't think Arlovski had any legit skills.

I hope he learns to throw something other than an over hand right.  I don't think I ve ever seen him throw a left hook in his career.

I wonder if he knows how to "box" actually. I'm sure his conditioning is fine but you never know.

Freddie needs to treat him just like any other boxer starting off also. All tomato cans he can take out early to get his confidence up and gain rds in later bouts while stepping up the comp level.

boxing isn't exactly "easy" by no means. but atleast at the heavy level the punch out put /work rate isn't that high, so it will be interesting to see how he does from a combination perspective putting together his shots and actually having a gameplan in there and executing it in those 3 min rds..etc.

now that I think about it...A.A has a match up in a few weeks on the affliction card. Was that bout cancelled or something?

Reason being..if he gets KTFO...most boxing commissions won't let him get into the ring for atleast 3 months. Especially nevada state athletic commission.
