More goodies from GNC!!!
« on: July 08, 2008, 08:01:48 AM »
With the laments of high protein prices still echoing through the air, it’s nice to get some marked-down goodies. In this case, it’s MRPs. Here's what I got last week.

ON Whey Gold Meal: $21 for a 20-serving box (reduced to $16 and change, after the Gold Card discount).

ON Whey Gold Meal Lite: $16.75 (which between the Gold Card, and another discount, dropped to $10 for a 20-serving box; so I got two of them).

GNC Mega MRP, a 20-serving box marked down to $23. I got this one in late June. It tastes a bit bitter (due to the glutamine and creatine). As it’s a protein blend, I make this my last shake, taken before bedtime.

ON Any Whey: 1-lb. jug for $7 and change. This is the “flavorless” protein powder that you can use for cooking. It ain’t flavorless, though. It tastes awful by itself. But add some type of flavoring (even the remnants from  your previous shake), and it’s palatable.

Whey Gold Meal is a great MRP, tastes almost as good as Myoplex, and mixes rather easily. GNCs are marking them down, especially if they're due to expire in August. If you find some, load up on them. I do miss the free shaker bottles that came with ON's previous version of its MRPs.  ;D

Anyone who can get 20-serving boxes of MRPs for under $20. If you know of a supplement store that can do that, I'm all ears!! ;D

If you know any employees or the manager, they'll usually sell you shit before or just after expiry. And as we all know, those are just the recommended dates to sell the products by. Muscle Milk is my vice (I don't care if people say it's shit). Whenever that stuff's pulled from the shelves my buds phone me up and sell it to me for hella cheap.

My buds own a supplement store so they're kind enough to sell things to me for cost, sometimes even a little cheaper. We get killed by the suppliers up here in Canada!!

I have no friends in such capacity. But, most of the time, I can get to the markdowns, if I hit the right GNC, especially the one in a mall in the neighboring city/suburb from where I live. Of course, when I get the markdowns AND the Gold Card discount, it's terrific.

With skyrocketing food prices, that's about the only way that I'll buy protein powders. I'll usually have a tub of Muscle Milk to break the cycle every now and again. It's easy to get sick of the shit.

Well, there's always Wal-Mart, which sells Body Fortress protein powder. I've had to use that, as of late, because the prices everywhere else have jumped considerably.

But, this recent purchase, along with the CytoSport protein RTDs that Vitamin Shoppe has marked down to $1.75, makes up for that.

As I said, I have no such buddies. Fortunately, I also found some more RTDs on sale. If they're still on the clearance table when I get paid, it's time to clean up!!!

Hey MCWAY, I think they might be ripping you off on those Whey Gold MRP's. Company policy for a product that expires in august, (1-2 months out of expiration date) is supposed to be 75% off! So therefore, you should have gotten the MRP for probably 12 bucks after the discount.

It is no where close! Just like meat, you get what you pay for with protein powders.

Less quality, cheaper it is  ;) however, ON has slipped in recent months too, IMO

not always true. Most of the protein we buy only comes from 3 or 4 manufacurers, so actually we are getting the same protein, but just paying for the "brand name"

I think the MRPs I got were scheduled to expire in September. Regardless, it's still a great deal at less than $1 per pack of Whey Gold Meal.

Most whey protein is crap.  It is a crappy conentrate with a bunch of crap in it you don't need and will likely upset your stomach.  Trueprotein, Proteinfactory, allthewhey all sell a good quality isolate(s).  Isolates have very little to no fat and lactose in them.  Want to know if you got a good whey protein?  Look at two things:

1. The serving size, "grams"
2. The amount of protein "grams"

See what the exact % of protein is in the item.  If it is IMO 85% or below protein "especially if it a pure whey" it is crap.  Order a good quality whey isolate online from one of the above companies.

If it helps you recover from training, feed your body the protein it needs, and gets you growing, it (whey concentrate) is anything but "crap".

You can get whey concentrate with little to no lactose in it. And the miniscule extra amount of fat that may be in whey concentrate is HARDLY a reason for concern.

Plus, whey concentrate is usually more economical. Most pure whey products have both concentrate and isolate in it, with concentrate making up the majority. Isolate (unless you get marked-down RTDs, as I do at GNC) costs an arm and a leg.

You've living 10 years in the past, bro. If you said this a decade ago I would recline, for sure. But not anymore... that statement is completely false. There are great proteins out there. And the guys at TrueProtein let you create your own blends. There is casein available, milk protein isolates, different types of whey (blends, isolates, hydrosylates, all using different extraction methods), etc... the list goes on.

Right now, despite the global economy fucking up the whey prices, we've never had it better. But I honestly just stick with WPC/I post workout because I think you're an anabolic sponge after working out. I sometimes even mix a little casein in there because despite being a "slow" digesting protein, there are studies showing that blends are better. And I believe that to be true. I think WPI passes through your system pretty damn quickly so I don't mind a concentrate, or a home made blend.

At night, when I have the money, I used casein protein. Otherwise I toss back an omelet or 40g of whey if I'm really pressed for time.

That means it's time to hit Wal-Mart and get that Body Fortress Whey Protein....until GNC starts marking down more stuff, such as the ABB Mass Recovery RTDs I got.

If you buy online you can save a good deal of money. If I lived in the States, I'd exclusively buy from True Protein. What they're offering, the customer service, quality proteins, selections, customizations, etc... it's fucking unreal. I don't know why you guys aren't all over that shit!

My buds imported a few dozen pounds of protein and ended up paying hundreds in shipping charges and shit like that... they were pretty disappointed. I love my friends but the fucking idiots bought plain old vanilla too. Jesus lol....

Thanks, Gmflex.

I may have to look into that. Of course, I will still hit GNC and Vitamin Shoppe, as I did yesterday. Vitamin Shoppe has marked-down Isopure RTDs (Passion Fruit and Alpine Punch) for $1.90 each. I have 15 of them so far, as I've been buying a few at a time, after I leave the gym or go to the grocery store. With payday on the horizon, if there are any of them left, THEY'RE MINE!!!

And, there's another store that sells the previous version of Meso-Tech, a box of 20 servings for $21. If that's still on the shelf, it'll be on MY shelf shortly.

True protein is not that much cheaper.  It looks like it at first but their prices are by the pound.  Once you double to price for 2 pounds you realize that you can get the same shit from optimum or other cheaper brands for the same price
