Reading it now.

Great book, well written IMO.

Even beck then, many of the Marines of 1st recon knew it was about oil.   ;D

For what it's worth.

Poor translation from book to film as i watched the first series struggle through poor acting & dialog.

Considering how the number of dead soldiers has decreased by almost 250% over the past 100 years, I'd say the book was written by a generation retard.

I loved the book, I read the original story in Rolling stone when they put it all together. I have the series TIVO'd so we'll see how it does.

the book is good.

the J-lo thing was funny at the end of the first chapter.

The confusion on the battlefield seems written well.

And he also, gives a good sense of where many of these soldiers are coming from in their views and their reasons for joining the marines.

Certainly not a bunch a wild warmongering idiots that they are made out to be from time to time here on GB.

It's hard to rate the mini-series anyway becuase it's hard not to try and compare it Band of Brothers, which is probably the best thing on TV of all time

Good book. I'd also recommend "House to House" by David Bellavia - it's all about his experience in the battle of Fallujha.

Where are they coming from?  What are their reasons for joining the Marines?  Your average grunt seems to know nothing about foreign policy or economics.  Or if they do they have no problem fighting and dying for America's (and Europe's) lazy, gluttonous way of life.

Just walk into any Wal-Mart.

How about you buy the book and read it.   That way you can make an informed comment.

I was actually surprised that back then some of those Marines in 1st Recon knew it was about oil.

I agree about your Wal Mart comment however. ;D

What's uninformed about my comment? Go give a Constitution, American Government, or economics/history test to your average Marine and see how well they do.
