It's sad that as Americans we still actually believe we are a "free" and "democratic" nation. The country is ruled by a powerful, elite, clique who through certain financial and corporate systems controls our government. Our foreign policy, one that headhuntersix and other military personnel so emphatically support has absolutely nothing to do with national security and everything to do with money, oil, and power. This country could and should have cut its reliance on mid east oil decades ago. Know why it didn't? Cause you got a fucking old boys club of oilmen and oil companies that wield lots of power and control not only over the U.S. government but the world. We will never be energy independent as long as these oil conglomerates have the power they have. Look at how many Presidents and politicians come from big oil, let alone corporate America. Some of you in this thread have argued that our troops are over there protecting oil so that we can protect our way of life. What is our way of life nowadays? Ipods and SUV's? Granite counterops and stainless steel appliances? Cellphones and designer jeans? How much of our "way of life" is absolutely unnecessary, and downright gluttonous? How free and great is American society nowadays? Both parents working harder than ever barely able to raise their own kids, our health system is a mess, we are all pretty much enslaved by our mortgages, car loans, credit card debt because we've become brainwashed hyperconsumptive materialistic robots. Marketing and advertising is a multibillion dollar industry for a reason! Our government constantly socializes corporate losses while privatizing profits to a few. Americans are no healthier or no happier than other nations. But yet we are "free"? LOL................free to do what? Free to fucking be a slave to corporate America. Free to see our companies and public assets turned over to foreign nations/countries. Free to see our jobs outsourced and insourced. Free to eat like shit and stuff our face with Monsanto GMO food and crops. Free to send our kids to college and turn them into indentured debt slaves after 4 years. Of course the wealthier you are in America the "freer" you appear to be. But no nation has ever survived the income and wealth gaps you see in America. Income distribution in some form or another has ALWAYS sparked revolution. Hence why America was a great country when its middle class was the strongest. But listen to the sheeple and kool aid drinkers our there that tell you this is the fruit of capitalism at work! Capitalism? More like state corporatism. America hasn't had real capitalism.............w ell when have we?
