So why couldn't there be ... ?
« on: July 16, 2008, 11:24:37 AM »
I started to read this book by Misha Glenny McMafia it's about global organized crime. good read so far.

Some of may think this is CTer material, it isn't. Why couldn't there be an organized crime group within the American government? you have Japanese Yakuza and Chinese Triads which have existed for hundreds of years.  So why couldn't white people be capable of having secret organized crime links?

found this today. 4 part video with Misha Glenny.

some might say we have a multi-generational crime syndicate in our government right now.

or the tip of the ice berg

they are in public office. it's too easy to blame them. they act as a shield wouldn't you think?

best way to keep a secret is have it out in the open as if nothing is happening.

good point - I've also heard the saying that the best place to hide the truth is among a bunch of lies.

La Cosa Nostra?  ???

I have been planning on reading this book for some time, however, I have many others on my plate to get through first. One thing I read in a review in the Financial Times is that there are MANY crime syndicates this author ignores. He spends a great deal of time on the Eastern European traffickers because of his own ethnic background.

I just finished reading this book this past weekend, and I highly recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in global crime networks and how their power is wielded.

I found it more than a bit ironic that the author recommends greater regulation of the financial services industry in particular to combat the continuing attempts of criminal enterprises to seek new ways to generate wealth by illicit means.
