Dana's reaction to Tim getting rolled by Fedor?
« on: July 22, 2008, 08:18:27 PM »
Wouldn't Dana have been smug if Tim had pulled out a W vs Fedor, as I am sure he was praying for as he watched the PPV in his office instead of his own fight night - let's be real, we all know that's what he was doing.

But now Dana has to admit that Fedor is the real deal and eat all the shit he talked about Fedor not fighting a top 10 in the last few years, and has to admit that the best HW in the world may not actually be in his federation.  Has anyone asked him how he feels about the fact that the last two people to beat his HW champion are fighting for Affliction?

He couldn't possibly talk down about Tim without making the UFC look like a scrub was carrying the strap.

Correct. That was one of the reasons Tim was tapped ( ;D pun intended) to fight Fedor. To send a message to the fans of UFC.  I'm sure he'll redouble his efforts to hold Randy back as long as possible - at least until next year.

The UFC still has a big lead though in terms of having more recognizable fighters. The question is can Affliction continue to compete with the UFC in the long term? We know they have the money but how much patience does its investors have?

I'm sure  the people that invested in affliction anticipate taking a loss monetarily for a couple years until they can get established, and start outbidding the UFC for fighters that are falling out of contract with them...

it'll start out slow, but before long if they shell out the money they'll have the names to beat fighting for them....

seldom does one organization or company stay on top forever

Well I don't know that Dana ever said that Fedor wasn't the "real deal", I mean he did try hard to sign him to a contract.  He just said he didn't think he was the very best in the world, and that he hadn't fought a top level guy in the last few years, which WAS true.  I'm still not sure Tim Sylvia is even a top level guy, that performance was pathetic.

I think everyone knows Fedor is nasty.  We'll see if Affliction can get him any interesting opponents -- that is going to be the key.

By White saying Fedor has not fought any top fighters over the past couple years pretty much defines his lack of showing credit to an excellent fighter. I am sure a lot of the current UFC fighters will be sure to keep in mind the dollar amount they could make fighting for Affliction.

Who knows, maybe Dana and company will begin to shell out a comparable amount for their top fighters. Thoughts................ .....

This is why I am personally excited about affliction.  Now Dana knows he has some real competition in recruiting fighters.  It will take a while for Affliction to really become a powerhouse draw for fans and fighters, but I think they made serious ground in their first show.

Good for the growth of the sport, especially the fighters who have toiled away for years and haven't gotten much exposure.

Definitely good for us
