Man, that's weird. I was at a Viet friends house and some black dude came over, got absolutely TRASHED and started singing beautiful Viet karaoke. It was so different, especially considering how much better he was than all the adults (adults = elders). It blew my mind!
I agree for the most part.
My girl was very defensive, but once i learned what made her tick, she has become quite offensive. 
She grew up in Vietnam, and the way they view things are so much different than Americans.
Her family is a big pain in the ass, but i am learning to respect them much more for the way they raise their children and the values they live by.
Hey, man. That's wicked. We share something in common. My gf's parents were from the lower part of Vietnam and their traditions are very different. All the families visit my gf's parents because they're very popular. So whenever anyone's children start becoming young adults, they suggest marriages. I call them "suggested" marriages as opposed to arranged ones because they're sort of like ... you have a kid, I have a kid... they're good kids... the families like each other, and then there's a marriage. In Western society this doesn't work out too well, but everyone in their clique is very respectful, easy going, etc so it works out.
I'm guessing that's why my gf's family wants us to get married so badly. All the other families are talking shit because her dad is very respected and very powerful, but his daughter is going against the grain. While I don't agree with their totalitarian values, I can begin to appreciate them a little more. It'd just be nice to go to the market without little Viet skanks pointing in my direction and whispering about me. It's like high school all over, except everyone is much more dramatic and high strung. If they were white people I'd be doing some serious shit kicking. But even people in Vietnam are talking about me so I've got to behave. It's worth it for this girl though.
Overload, I wish you the best of luck with your woman. Viet chicks are absolutely adorable. And they live for their man too, not that you should take advantage of her or anything. I find Viet/Cambodian chicks to be soooo hot. And they're very loyal too. Although my girl grew up in Canada from a very young age, I thought the language barrier was going to mess things up. But she's deeper and much more colourful and than whore I've met. Anytime she uses an 's at the end of a world I always jokingly tell her "I don't want you pronouncing
plural!!"
