Bush signs housing bill in private... no ceremony
« on: July 30, 2008, 04:22:38 PM »
With none of the fanfare that usually attends a landmark bill becoming law, President Bush signed the huge housing rescue bill just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, shortly after he arrived in the Oval Office.

Only a few aides and administration officials were present, including Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Steve Preston and James B. Lockhart III, the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.

The White House announced the signing by e-mail moments later.

The bill, the biggest overhaul of housing law in decades, provides a lifeline for an estimated 400,000 homeowners facing foreclosure, and provides assurances to the mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, whose books are loaded with bad mortgages.

Usually such a bill signing is accompanied by a self-congratulatory ceremony, with souvenir pens for congressional leaders and for members, senators and chairmen who spearheaded the legislation.

Bush is a lib.   He took $100 bil to bail out banks.  Now he's bailing out idiots who bought houses beyond their means.

Socialism, anyone?  We don't need Obama.  we have it already ;)

Maybe if I get drunk and wreck my car, bush will reward me with a new one?

I don't know man, he is big spender too...this guy has been good on the war on terror but not much else.  This kind of shit really bugs me.  It's just a bad precedent to intiate, I want to help people too but how the hell do you chose the 400k home owners?  There are many people who are on the brink that can't didn't fuck up bad enough to qualify, just plain stupid imo.

I hear ya though.

No chance of that. you have to come from a rich, powerful connected family to get them perks.

You might have gotten a new car, your record expunged, ...and maybe one day ...become POTUS,

...that is, ...if you came from a rich connected family.

Don't get drunk and wreck your car, ...your ass would simply go to jail like the rest of us slobs.  ;)

Bush allowed predatory lending, but these idiots chose to sign those loans.  I was sitting on $16k in 2003, and the woman and family was bugging me to go put down a down payment on a house, and I said hell no... and I'm glad I didn't... because the neighborhood has gone to shit here, and people can't sell anything.  There are 6 foreclosed homes on my street.

Worse yet, what about the people that did hold on. The precedent taking place, really screws up the free market.
