I'm excited about this too. They didn't give much up for him, and they need a bat in the worst way. Too bad they didn't pull the trigger on CC Sabathia a few weeks ago, but they still have a chance in the offseason if they want to open up the pocketbook a little more.

I don't think Manny would approve a trade without the parameters involving NOT picking up his option.  This whole thing is about him getting out from that, so he can get a new, longer term deal.

Yes, but not that much.  He doesn't have the same presence that Manny has, but for the sox to unload a malcontent when they have ZERO leverage and pick up a player like Bay is a pretty good deal.

They have been struggling but are still one of the best teams in the MLB. Manny is on the downside of his career, and Bays numbers are comparable to Mannys right now. Also, the park Bay plays in will translate into more production at Fenway. Boston just got rid of the biggest distractions they faced all year. Your basing your opinion on a bad stretch, and all teams go through them. There is a ton of talent on the Red Sox roster, and I am confident that they will be in the hunt for a title.

They did something like this in 2004 with Nomar, and they won a title. Manny is no longer worth 20 million per year, and he turned into a bad team player. The sox have been pretty good at getting rid of guys when they are about to hit the back nine of their career. Just ask Johnny Damon, and Pedro ( sorry Grape!).

No one said Manny is not a legendary player...... Manny will help you a alot. But, this year alone, he has thrown a red sox employee to the ground ( for not getting him 16 tickets to a sold out game, the day of the game), refused to play, talked shit about the owners of the team - in the media, lied about injuries, punched Youk in the face, and had to be talked on to a plane, to fly out and play the Angles. Manny is a team killer, and he was bringing the sox down. It was a total media circus in the club house.

Honestly, he will do well for LA, but he is on the back nine of his career. The guy we traded for.... has about the same numbers ( in a tougher ball park) as Manny. Also, Manny is not a very good defensive players, so this Bay kid could give the Sox better d out in left. If Bay can stand the pressure, he could turn out to be a great move for the sox. Gives them alot more money to play around with ( since they are now the fourth biggest payroll in the MLB ).

Manny got a little cocky. Going on to the radio and talking about how the sox would never trade him, because they knew what they had, and the sox didn't deserve him......oops!
