Does this type of passion still exist?
« on: August 05, 2008, 08:05:05 PM »
2nd Corinthians Chapter 11

23-in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in depths oft.
24-Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
25-Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
26-In journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
27- In weariness and painfulness, in watching often, in hunger and thirst, in fasting often, in cold and nakedness.

On 5 separate occasions Paul received a total of 39 whips, on 3 separate occasion he was beaten by rods, he was once stoned to death, but some how came back to life, 3 times shipwrecked and once he stayed floating in the middle of nowhere in water for a 24 hour period. All this all because he was teaching in Jesus' name and nothing stopped him. inspirational to say the least. St. Paul

This is very convicting, 1TH!   Especially when you consider that the majority of Christians (me specifically), are virtually crumble at times when my faith is tested even if only verbally.

When I read that scripture, it makes me think of people like Cassie Bernall, the girl who would not deny her belief in Jesus Christ as she stared down the barrel of a rifle aimed right at her.  That's the kind of passion Paul had as he endured the beatings as he spread the Gospel.  I know there many Christians who are in the mission field with this kind of passion.  It's my prayer that I would come to a point where I have this kind of passion for Christ.

You see this is a major reason why (at least Abrahamic) religions are false.

Both the Bible and koran have genesis like stories (which contradict scientific studies) in which people live well into their 3rd and 4th centuries ::)

Now a guy is stoned to DEATH and comes back to LIFE? ???

The koran also tells of a story of some men who live in a cave asleep (without ANY resources) and stay alive for hundreds of years.

Seriously... how can this be believed?

Ummm....the passage in 2 Corinthians 11 doesn't state that Paul was stoned to death. That sounds like a mis-statement on Onetimehard's part. Stoned and left for dead would be a more accurate statement.

I was attending this sermon and the pastor stated that his heart had stopped and it started again, this happens even now. After going back and examining the verses there is in fact no mention of this so McWay's interpretation is more accurate, sorry, my mistake. After Paul was stoned they dragged him outside of the city thinking he was dead.

That happened to a relative of mine once, maybe he is related to Paul?
