Pre season football
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:29:27 AM »
Anybody watch last night?
I'm always interested in my G-men so I check it out.
I think Kenny Philips, their 1rst round pick outta UM will be the starter by opening day.
I always watch the 2nd and 3rd stringers to see if anybody stands out or if theres a long shot I like to root for.
looks like one of the Giants linebackers they drafted broke a bone in his back and might be out for the year :-\

Ravens looked decent against the Pats. Boller looked impressive on his opening drive down the field. But he quickly showed signs of his old self when he threw that ridiculous INT in the second quarter.

Troy Smith looks really good, imo. I think he should be the starter. The players like him, he's got quick feet in the pocket and a strong arm. My only concern is his lack of height which will cause him to scramble outside of the pocket often in order to see the whole field.

The jury is still out on Joe Flacco. He looked like a deer in lights with eyes as big as golf balls out there. Two turnovers on his first two possessions. Not too good.

The defense looked awesome as usual in the first quarter and a half. The Ravens will definitely have one of the best defenses in the NFL this season with the return of Trevor Pryce and Justin Bannan this season. Fabian Washington looks like a beast out there(two 1st half int's) and he should definitely start ahead of Samari Rolle at CB. I think they have one of the best d-lines in football in terms of talent and depth. Their best backups, Dwan Edwards and Bannan, could start for most teams.

But as usual, it all comes down to the offense. I think Troy Smith gives them their best chance to win.

You almost have to expect Flacco to be like that coming from Delaware.

Most of the pats offensive starters where out. No Moss, Brady, Faulk, Welker, Morris, Light, Neal, Watson or Gaffney. All the pats rookies looked good. Mayo is and crable are going to be starters, and wheatley look great in the backfield. Mayo is going to be a pro bowler. Carble had an int in coverage, and showed explosive rushing ability. At 6'7 he is going to be a very good player. The pats linebacking core is going to be one of the best in the NFL this year. Vrabel, Thomas, Mayo, Crable, Alexander, Gutton and Redd all has very good nights last night.

Rookies
Who hot :
Jarod Mayo
Sean Crable
Redd
Kevin Oconnel
Terrance Wheatley
Matt Slater
Eric Alexander
Gutton

Who's not :
Chad Jackson
CJ jones
Matt Cassel

Oconnel ( the rookie qb) looked really good, while Casell looked like SHIT.

You think Crable will start this year?

Without a doubt ( in a pash rushing role)....He had a few sacks, several pressures and an int in coverage last night.

Well he is from Michigan ;)

I didn't catch all of the Gmen so I didn't see what they did with Kiwanuka.
the Giants lb's,and wr's are a mess right now with injury's.I think the wr's will be ok but I'm very interested to see what they do with their lb's.Wilkerson looked good and fast against the Pats in the regular season final but he hasn't practiced full speed yet this year.Mitchell is gone so I was assuming that would be his spot.
And I wanna see what they do with Tuck.I know everybody says he just takes Strahan's spot but he was a fucking animal when teams didn't know where he was coming from.

Mostly second.
they want Kiwanuka on one side and either Danny Clark or Wilkerson on the other.Pierce in the middle.

Despite all of your superstars not playing, the Ravens still looked great on defense in the first half and will still have one of the best defenses in the NFL.

I was not trying to insult you. I was just stating how the game went. The ravens d did look good, but they didnt face anyone who starts for the pats. Aside from Maroney, Koppen and Mankins. Just a statement, not in anyway a dig. I thought Smith looked good at QB.

I dont put much stock into preseason - (aside from how guys look on the field). The pats lost their first preseason game 34 - 0 the last year the won the superbowl.

that d line is rediculous. All of them have a sh*t load of "dog" in them and that is contagious all the way down to the last guy on the bench.

they'll bring heat all year i'm sure. If Kenny starts at FS he will get some nice air balls thrown up his way to pick.

Preseson should be taken with a grain of salt. Miami had a great preseason last year, and they went 1-15.
