I decided early on that I didn't want to be an elementary teacher anymore. Took some aptitude tests to see what areas I'd be good at. They said programming. Had the right personality for it. I had no skills, of course.
Went back to community college. In a year, I had an AS degree, a couple certs, and a job teaching web design, staying just one lesson ahead of the class

A school saw my certifications and offered me the position of network admin. I was sitll getting teacher salary and benefits, but now just running school network. Then the local university got my resume and offered me a small salary and full MBA paid, to run a chunk of their website, which I took.
I always planned to stay in the school system, maybe one day I'll return. But I make more $ now, and I get to stay home and work now.
