Which is more important in a street fight?
« on: August 09, 2008, 09:01:32 AM »
Strength

or

Fighting Skill/Technique?

I would say strength, imagine if a 180lbs man with a black belt martial arts got into a fight with a WSM competitor... the martial artist would get crippled. Ime fed up of people underestimating how important strength is.

 ;D
This post was inspired by the bald 180lbs beast at my sports center who walks around staring everyone down because he is a karate instructor, his famous line is "Being strong means nothing in a fight, you need to take up a form of martial arts for self defense".

Haha - true. And you'll also find that the ones who talk the most are also the ones who've never been in a fight in their lives.

Secret of the street fighting is fast foot's, meaning that if you can run 100 meters under 10 seconds, you don't have to worry about your fighting skill's. Next best skill is to be able to draw and shoot fast enough. You can't beat the bullet, your martial art's doesn't mean shit against 9mm Clock. So simple. If you don't have one of those skills, it is better to stay at home.

Both

Bodyweight, functional strength also

But I dont think a pro boxer (or even experienced amateurs) would have serious difficulties beating a man heavier than them, it really dosent take alot to knock someone out.
Especially when the guy has never really expierienced a solid blow to the chin, its lights out.

Really depends on the situation

this question was knocked around before, when someone called squadfather on his claim regarding cotto (saying that he'd kick cotto's ass).

somebody in that thread put it out in black and white: would, say, michael carbajal in his prime - carbajal being one of the best boxers ever, but extremely tiny - beat a 300lbs (with abs) bodybuilder, big as a house but thick as a brick mentally with no fighting skills?

in other words, everything in life is a question of balance...even something as lowly as a street fight.

The thread is street fight...not trained fighter.  There are clowns on here who think they could beat Kimbo before he started to train.  The stuff he was doing on video in Miami was raw.  Untrained in a backyard brawl Kimbo would put guys in comas on this site...including those strong, slow a$$ bbers.

If Disney could have harnessed the power of dreamers on this site....he would have ruled the world.
