The media can really spin things.

I see a couple reports to confirm Hugo's opinion about the Georgians actually starting the dispute by attacking the southern Ossetia rebels, who are loyal to Russia.  hmmmmm....sounds like something we need to stay out of, or at least take a broader look at.  Man, the media has been really one sided on this one.

These so called rebels are nothing more than Russian paid Cronies, put on Georgia soil, to stir up problems, so that when Georgia decides to finaly try and get some control of them, Russia can run to the rescue of their newly appointed Russians passport holders. and seize control of one third of Georgia's land, and the 1/3 that contains the newly built Gas pipe lline ( just by coincidence)

From 2002: Green Berets now in Georgia: U.S. Special Forces are training Georgian soldiers to fight radical Muslims.  The mission could ,(haha) benefit other U.S. interests as well...

President George Bush called the May deployment of U.S. advisers to Georgia the latest front in the U.S. war on terrorism. Much like their fellow soldiers in the Philippines, U.S. Special Forces are teaching Georgian soldiers how to better fight Muslim extremists within their country.

Georgia is the first former Soviet republic to train with U.S. troops since Sept. 11. (Several other ex-Soviet states have allowed the use of their airfields.) The mission gives Washington a strategic toehold to help stabilize the oil-rich and volatile Caspian Sea region.

Today: President Bush sent American troops to Georgia on Wednesday to oversee a "vigorous and ongoing" humanitarian mission, in a direct challenge to Russia's display of military dominance over the region. A senior administration official said, "We won't be protecting the airport or seaport, but we'll certainly protect our assets if we need to."
