I keep on hearing numerous media people bitching about China hosting the Olympics and still making references to the tiananmen square incident from the late 80's. These guys act like the US is all perfect and China is a shithole that shouldn't hold the Olympics.
First of all that incident was over 20 years ago and the country has been changing. Yet they keep on refering to how china put this "fresh coat of paint" to hide what Beijing is really like.
How about New Orleans? The NBA hosted their all-star game there. I never heard one bad reference about that. They did the same thing. They put this fresh coat of paint on the city to show that life is back to normal yet there are still thousands and thousands of families still displaced, thousands of homes in ruins and the failure of the gov. to fix this years later is an embarassement. Yet they put this whole positive spin on it like it's a rebuilding of the city. Why can't the Olympics be a rebuilding of China?
The next BS I keep on hearing about is pollution in China. Well there's a reason why there's so much pollution. This is because all of the millions and millions of Americans that can't get enough of cheap chinese goods from Walmart. China's air is so polluted because they are filling our insatiable need for cheap chinese made crap.
Some ESPN commentator was all livid about China and claimed he wouldn't watch the Olympics because the visual of tiananmen square is still in his head. Yet I bet this is the same person that probably eats chinese food once a week, shops at walmart or target and probably 70% of his home has a "Made in China" stamp on it.
The hypocracy is outstanding. Get over it. 1 out of every 5 people in this world is Chinese, live with it.
America always talks about change and rebuilding yet they are as negative as can be about China who is trying to do the same. Sure there are things that go on there that we can't understand but this nation isn't innocent either. China has about 5 to 6 times more people than us but the amount of deaths related to guns is about 500 times less.
Having over a billion people to govern is not easy and being able to give all of them a quality of life is not possible.
The great USA still has thousand and thousands of children that barely get a meal a day, thousands of people that live in the streets and that have to beg for food. I read a sad stat that a handful of people a day die from malnutrition. The same cause of death of a lot of people in poor African nations. But wait we're better than Africa right? Not really. There is such a disparity between classes that most people don't really know how some people have to live in the USA.
Before people get all judgmental about China hosting the Olympics and walking around like their shit don't stink should first look in their own backyard before passing judgment on others.
Rant over, I'm off of my soapbox now.
