I've always wanted to try it but you need LOTS of space and there are no gyms in the NYC are with that kind of room.

You should check out Lost Battalion in Queens. It's an olympic weightlifting gym with some amazing coaches. Plenty of space too. Here's the website http://www.lostbattalionhallweightlifting.org/
