It must have been 1981, 1982.  once a month, we'd be in the basement/cafeteria (bottom floor below ground level).  Covering our heads in case of nuclear attack.

The Akron Beacon Journal would run pieces showing what would happen if a nuclear bomb hit the "Y-bridge", a bridge in the middle of town.  How many mile radius, along with speed of death and demise.  You could find your house on the map and see how fast you'd die, and how painful it'd be.


Brutal fearmongering.  People today are smart enough to know that the chances of being hit by lightning are greater than terrorist attack, and that every domestic attack in the last 15 years was completed with - how do you say - a trail of evidence it was allowed to happen in order to allow for an agenda planned for simultaneous release.

I do recall being very scared of a nuclear attack when I was about 12...all the news propaganda...

Historically, we used the rises of fascism, communism, then terrorism in order to get the permission of the people to allow the borrowing of trillions - in their name - to fund vast military expansion.

The people who work at the pentagon - and those who work at defense companies - change jobs depending upon what party is in office.  In other words, when we have a dem president, guys like Cheney and Rummy work for defense firms.  When we have a repub president, they take jobs in govt, and the dem guys work in pvt sector.

it's how it's worked for 60+ years.  Eisenhower warned us of it before he left office, JFK vowed to disband it (then of course was killed a week later) and every prez since then has just played ball.

Money, power, global expansion... paint it however you'd like.
