The most important number is the total in medals. About half the gold medals China has are from sports that require judges. Being the home country, I am surprised they don't have more judges in their pockets.
USA track and field is criticized, yet how many medals does China have in that sport?

Very childish and irrelevant post. Obviously every race has genetics suited to particular sports, Chinese as well as most Asians recognise they will never have the explosive power that US has. However, they do have very good eye hand coordination and therefore aim to collect as many medals as possible in the events they are best suited to. It is similar to a Country which specialises in a particular raw material and in one in which they enjoy comparative advantage.
To compare US track and field to Chinese track and field is like comparing apples and oranges, its is similar to them comparing US table tennis to Chinese table tennis.
Please guys grow-up, obviously China has put a lot of emphasis on performing well in these games as they are home nation after all. The Olympics IMO and generally the opinion of most athletes should never bring politics into the sport - that is generally what the Olympics stands for and the reason why Black athletes were criticised so heavily for the black power celebrations all those years ago. This is a sporting extravaganza and should not take politics into account.
China did well and i feel USA underperformed in track and field and were not as dominant as in previous games. I am sure this will only spur the US to bigger and better things come 2012 - sometimes people need a kick up the back side to let them know they are slacking or the competition is strengthening.
