Has Chinese Olypics been successful...?
« on: August 21, 2008, 06:39:46 AM »
Overall, has it been a boon to the world, or have there been too many downsides?

I have not really watched, anybody have a take on this?

Boring to say the least.  The stadiums are half full. The fuckers only cheer for chinese athletes and it's dead quiet any other time.  The atmosphere has no electricity.  Nothing special at all.  No one gives a fuck if a slant eye wins a gold.  No honor in it.

From what standpoint? The Olympics should never have gone to China in the first place, as it was a recognition of the world offender of Human Rights in the world.  The IOC should be ashamed of themselves.  Letting bodybuilding into the games would have been a better idea than allowing Beijing to host them.

I've enjoyed it more than most years. A lot more surprises and a better showing from some smaller nations.

I think it's been an excellent Olympics - they get better every time and London will be better still.

who cares, people are always going to complain no matter where the Olympics are held, Australia, China, South America, US, Europe, there's always some bitter, disillusioned souls that will criticize everything.

I have found the games to particularly successful - the Chinese have done a great job hosting and everything organisational wise has been top notch.

The ceremony, stadiums and facilities have been world class and will remain unrivalled coming into London 2012. I think some of you let your bias against the Chinese affect your judgement when determining how successful the games have been.

The Great British team has been fantastic, i have been very impressed with our progress thus far - this has been our best performance for many many years and British athletes deserve an enormous amount of praise.

Agreed. The IOC are a bunch of fucking hypocrites and only care about $$$, fuck the "Olympic Ideal" Not only have they tuned a blind eye to Chinese human rights offenses, for years they let star athletes get away with being dirty and only disciplining 5th and 6th placers. Busting big names = loss of money.
The only reason the bust from the balco scandal came about was because a disgruntled trainer who hadn't been paid sent in a syringe. The inept IOC would have NEVER caught it.
Too bad. Imagine Bolt on THG.  ;D

i tend to agree with that. i have been watching mostly track and field and its obvious the chinese dont know much about the different events.

the track and field events have been very good tho, but not thanks to the crowd. I dont think its necessary to call them slant eyes tho.

Well we need to stick together just as our rivals are doing.

UK and US will always have a special relationship - it is in our best interests to play the little brother role for the foreseeable future.

it is disrespectful to the flag to sew it to your backpack.  if you as an american don't respect your flag, why would any other cuntry?
