A true story.
« on: August 26, 2008, 10:17:19 AM »
When I was 20 I worked at a drug rehab facility.  We had a crude "gym" there and one day I went in to do some benching with my patients.  I told them my max was like 185 or something so they wanted me to make a new personal record so I had them load up 200#.  I admit I wasn't very strong and still am not, but for them I got under the bar and went for it.  When I lifted it, it felt very heavy but I knew that if I failed to complete the rep they all would likely get depressed and start using meth, coke and heroin again.  So I gathered my strength and pushed like their lives depended on it, which they likely did!  I completed the rep and and my patients went on to live clean and sober productive lives (I assume) thanks to me.

While you were showing off benching the other ones were rifling through your locker for $$$ for their next fix.

I didn't have a locker or cash, I was a student and at the time I was just an intern, they did hire me later.

And yes it is a true story.  Sure I maybe exagerated some parts for comedy and drama, but it's true.

Why do you think God created the dumping process as he did? He could have made it much more efficient and less messy.

My bench went up THE SAME DAY I downloaded and read the benching chapter in Starting Strength.  No one had ever coached me on form, and frankly my form sucked.  I've since become a believer in the bench as a pec developer (I was a doubter before), and I'm moving much bigger weight than I was only several weeks ago.  True story.
