On CSPAN, after Hillary's speech, Hillary supporters call in.
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:16:19 PM »
So far, not one negative comment from a Hillary supporter.  Most of them saying this is what they were waiting for.  Several callers saying they were waiting before supporting Obama and this fixed it.  WOW, this is huge.  OK, I just heard the first supporter call in with a negative, but that's only one.

There was a delegate interviewed on CNN right after the speech who was pretty upset.  Said Barack didn't have enough experience and Hillary was presidential.

Anyone who changes their mind just because of this speech is missing some marbles.  Its all rehearsed unity bullshit.  I don't believe Clinton sees Barack as a political equal.

barack isn't her equal.  she's more experienced and cooler, no doubt.

however, for a clinton voter to shift to mccain means this...

they aren't voting based on issues.  (since obama and hilary are near-identical)
They're voting on personality.

They choose the person over all their positions.   Kinda big to do that.

He got more votes.  But it's really tough to say he was a stronger candidate, had more experience, etc.  He got the youth vote, the hope vote, and colleges showed up.  He won by ONE primary.  neck and neck.  If edwards' affair comes out sooner, Hilary wins Iowa and it's all over after NH.

Hillary's campaign made some major mistakes (the caucuses, etc)
Obama road the hope & change wagon.  He got the youth vote (many who don't get into political details), 95% of the black vote, and the very wealthy liberals to back him.  He split Clinton's base of support.  The Clintons always counted on a large % of minority vote, which she did not get.  Also, I think her personality turned off many young voters.  There's zero question that she was better qualified compared to Barack, who is really a first term senator with a strong backround as a community organizer and champion of the poor & minority rights in south Chicago.

I let the problems with his pastor and throwing his grandma under the bus go.
That was poor judgment, but he was an activist in Chicago, it goes with the territory.

My mind was made up after the whole guns and religion thing. I am not a racist and I don't need to feel like one for not supporting Obama.

The Dems are heading down the wrong path with the leadership of Reid, Pelosi and now Obama mean that the ultra left rule the party.
No thanks. I would not ever support Obama.

Exactly joker.  The democrats are swinging more to the left than the center, that is a problem.

Hugo, just because a couple of annonomyous and alleged Hillary suporters waited on hold to pronounce their support for Obama on CSPAN, that doesnt mean that Hillary's supporters by and large are going to support Obama.

My mother for instance, was a huge Hillary fan and would never in a million years cast her vote for Obama. Hillary represents more of the central and mainstream branch of the democratic party and I think most democrats 50+ (unless they are a bunch of ancient smelly flower child one world nation hippies) despite race or gender ( but women especially) will not vote for Obama.

There are also several pro-hillary anti Obama blogs--> Here is my favorite

Interesting.

She votes based upon the person, not the issues they stand for?

I wonder how voters are split on this... Will they vote with the person who most fits their goals on healthcare, economy, war, etc?  Or just the person they are more comfy with?

I mean, if there's a 70-year old woman living alone who can't afford medicine, well, without a doubt, Obama's going to help her a little more than Mccain will.

I think a lot of people do vote on the person as least as much as the issues.  I tend to favor the issues, but personal qualities are extremely important, you just can't ignore them...it goes to character, judgement, decisions on unpredictibe circumstances, etc.

I know several women who were voting for Hillary but are not voting for Obama.
