What happened to Ronnie in 2002??

Anyone know the story behind Ronnies condation at the 02 show? looks like his physquie went back to 1993-97, was he sick or burned out? i know he came back hard in 2003 but these pics from muscle-time show a well....not that good...even his usually massive arms look really-off.. ??? ??? ???..any thoughts about the show??

He was depleted that year … and chad immediately acknowledged that and said that ronnie has been coming in depleted cause he got ready early … and he said rinnie will be 285lbs next year … I didn’t buy it first cause he was 246lbs at 02 … but he was right … and that is when I know chad is the best guy around

i was at the olympia in 2002.

The lineup included Levrone, Flex, Lee priest, Cormier, Dexter, Dennis, Nasser, Gunter, Titus, Marcus Ruhl, Atwood, Kamali and Gustavo.

The crazy thing was Gustavo placed 24th out of 25 guys, Ronnie won and Gunter stole the show.. by placing 5th..

Levrone was the uncrowned Champ.  Later in 2002  Ronnie placed second to Gunter at the GNC show of Strength

He was 275 4-5 weeks out from the 2002 Olympia and unbeatable.
He maybe needed to drop 5 pounds of water.
He and Chad were trying to duplicate his 2001 Arnold Classic physique
but he had outgrown that physique by then.
Imagine having to drop close to 30 pounds in 4-5 weeks when there is already
almost no fat.
Some pics 4-5 weeks out at 275.

You see pics like that so far out from the contest, be it Dorian or any of the other guys like Phil Heath, etc., and you wonder why you don't see that on stage.  That's a good look and then something happens.  It would be very interesting to see what would happen if someone came in looking exactly like that...

Its not thats something happens its that its way to painful to maintain that look for 5 weeks while already depleted so his best bet is to be ready like a week or 2 out so you don't burn out.

Understood, however, it's not a matter of maintenance, it's a matter of targeting to look like THAT on contest day.

Thanks for that i hadn,t kept an eye on the sport for a few years back then and just wondered wat had happened to all his size that year.
