New Gov. of Alaska... Five kids. One just born this year... a special needs child... Doesn't she have bigger fish to fry? I'm surprised she would want to be VP. By any measure, she has a steep learning curve ahead of her. Is she ready to be President if McCain croaks a month into his presidency?

I don't like his politics, but Romney strikes me as a more qualified choice. Oh well, I think this helps Obama.

18 months of governor experience..... that's all she has.

Less than Obama... and she'll be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

McCain really dropped the ball here. He's bought in to all the Obama flim-flam and simply want to out-do Obama's "excitement." Very very bad move.

yeah, I am not sure how a 44-year old woman with a grand total of 18 MONTHS of governor experience is going to handle the job as President if needed.

Mccain is 71 years old and has numerous bouts with cancer.

I can't imagine this young woman staring down Putin if the cold war starts back up. I can't imagine her as the most powerful person in the free world.

It's an exciting pick designed to win over hilary voters.
But IMO, obama BARELY has enough experience.
She does not.

Good choice.

I thought Pawlenty was a better choice (yesterday), but hard to argue with this one.

She's no Christie Todd Whitman in terms of executive abilities, but she's PERFECT for the ticket in this election climate.

As I've been saying, those GOP strategists really did their homework.

I expect Palin to give McCain a nice bump in places like Washington and Oregon.

The ONLY reason he has picked her is because she supports drilling in the Alaska Wildlife Refuge and the building of pipelines all over Alaska, which is NOT a long term solution.

Or, he could be after one last cheap thrill as his previous trysting character allows.

Choosing a woman was smart, but Christine Todd Whitman (former NJ Gov.) would have been a better choice. She is much more qualified and could have insulated McCain from being associated with Bush since they fired her as head of the EPA.
