I'm seeing a lot of threads immediately dissolve into thoughtless drivel.  A majority of these initiated with some sort of sarcastic response with immediate dissolve of the thread following.  insults and sarcasm are OK but have some legit response included.

Now before we got heavy into this presidential election, this forum was performing above and beyond any expectations I had for it.  For the most part people were very good and disagreeing and putting forth an intentional reply with some level of thought behind it.

Now some of this lately is probably due to stories hitting hard and much faster and in much greater numbers.  But this is the net, infomation is a click away.  Take a moment to check your preferred sources and form a legitimate rebuttal to the thread you're posting in. 

Let this forum come out of this election better, more knowledgable and exceeding our expections rather than come out as just another owned or stoned forum.

no, it doesn't but the way to post against that is with information not an eye roll and sarcasm.  Just because it's on the net doesn't mean it's wrong.  If it's wrong, lay out why it's wrong.  I've heard some crazy shit posted from Rush and Fox and Newsmax and Drudge etc..  It's not an excuse for me to launch a sarcastic reply with no substance to rebut the assertions.  I've probably fallen to doing it before but I am against it and don't want to see it.  It needs to change.  We were doing pretty good before.  We had a lot more threads that actually went quite a few pages debating the thread topic.  I'd just like to see us not lose that.

it is but it should not be the goal.  I have always tried to find where the truth is.  yes, it gets very hard but it's not impossible to pull truths out of the political swamp.  If we are to fall to never having any truth obtainable in what we do here, I have no purpose or motivation to continue with any political engagement and will move on.

This is the world of spin and there are a million masters of it.  Everything out there has someone with a discrediting spin on every individual take.  Who's going to be the dictator when it's up to me to say what is legit and what is not?  I'd be a full on dictator then.  So sorry, you're wrong.  The onus is not on making sure everything is credible, the onus is on you to properly discredit it if you believe what someone posted is false.  If it cannot be proven false, it's still up to you to argue your case to best support your theory on the issue.  Use your intelligence.  If you do not believe a case for what is being said is solid, list the holes.  Clean up the forum, make your case, show why they're premature in making such conclusions etc etc.  Have fun.  Nobody is trying to take away the fun.  post a few zingers, but we need to stop the unproductive sabatoge of threads by including earnest attempts at debating the thread's point.
