Brock Lesnar: I'm tired of hearing about Fedor Emelianenko
« on: September 03, 2008, 02:59:30 PM »
For UFC newcomer Brock Lesnar (2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), the frustration was evident.

UFC President Dana White yesterday announced Lesnar would face a returning Randy Couture at UFC 91 for Couture's heavyweight title. And despite being part of what White referred to as "the biggest fight in UFC history," Lesnar was largely ignored for most of the hour-long media conference call.

The majority of questions focused on Couture's return and how it would impact a possible bout between Couture and current WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko. Lesnar quickly grew tired of the hypothetical discussion.

"I'm hearing all this talk about Fedor Emelianenko," Lesnar said. "Who gives a [expletive] about Fedor? I don't care. I'm fighting Randy Couture. That's what this press conference is about."

Lesnar said he was not alone in his disdain for the discussions of Emelianenko.

"I don't give a damn about Fedor," Lesnar said. "I'm tired of hearing about [expletive] Fedor. Randy Couture is fighting Brock Lesnar Nov. 15. His No. 1 concern should be Brock Lesnar. And Dana White could care less about Fedor.

"Everyone's beating around the bush. Yeah, you want that fight? I don't give a damn. I'm sick and tired of sitting on the phone listening about Fedor. He's not with the company, and he might not ever be with the company. So who gives a [expletive]?"

While Couture has continually expressed interest in arranging a fight with Emelianenko -- including undertaking a 12-month layoff in hopes of securing the bout -- there are still no guarantees that the UFC will be able to bring the Russian into the organization.

That fact was not lost on Lesnar.

"Let's get to the facts here," Lesnar implored. "The facts are that it's me and Randy Couture, and Fedor isn't with the company. So why are we wasting our breath on talking about a guy or a match that might not ever happen?

"This is what's happening. I don't know how many times you have to say it. This is for real. This fight's going to happen. Randy Couture and Fedor that might not ever happen. But this fight is going to happen. I'm on the telephone talking about this fight."

With his position on Emelianenko clearly established, Lesnar turned to his chances against the legendary Couture.

"Randy's a smart guy," Lesnar admitted. "He knows how to fight heavyweights. But trying to compare me to Gabriel Gonzaga is like apples and oranges. Randy understands that he's up against a different beast in this fight.

"Randy said that earlier today he's going to come in at 225 pounds (for the fight). I'm coming in at 265 pounds, so there's a huge weight difference."

Besides the obvious size difference, Lesnar also felt his camp at Minnesota Martial Arts would be able to devise a victorious plan of attack.

"We're not dummies here," Lesnar said. "We're going to figure out how to beat Randy Couture, just like we figured out how to beat Heath Herring. I will come into this fight well-prepared and with a game plan to win the title that night."

His entire opinion of Fedor is just oozing with the influence of Dana White.  While he is correct that Fedor is indeed not in the UFC, so all the possible fight talk, for now, are only pipe dreams, he really seems like he is just towing the company line and spewing the paraphanalia that Dana feeds him.

If they ever meet in the octagon, Fedor's going to f*ck Brock and in the post fight interview say he respects Brock as an athlete - that's the difference between those two guys. No class vs. class

Damn straight.  I caught all kinds of shit for posting that Brock had no class after the way he presented himself during and after the Herring fight, but he keeps proving me right.

Brock is really becoming a company man talking like that. I wish all MMA fighters would watch and see how Randy and GSP conduct themselves.

Yeah, Randy has only spent the last 11 months trying to sue his boss to get out of a contract he signed. ::)

I agree. Brock acts to bad ass for only winning 1 fight against Herring. Definitely beginning to sound like Dana found a new marionette. Bottom line is, Fedor would turn Brock inside out, pull him upside down, read him his last rights, and still respect the dude after the fight.

Well what does this have to do with that I said? You can say what you want but there was a ton of people who were really behind Randy and his decision originally. Sorry to say fighting is a business so what ever goes down behind the scenes for contract negotiation I don't hold against anyone. A professional athletes career is very short compared to other career choices. So he felt slighted or he wanted more money what is the big deal. Hey if my boss does not want to pay me or show me the respect I feel I deserve I should have every right to renegotiate with my current employer or go work for someone else who will. Would you stay with an employer if your perception was that you were being treated unfairly?

Anyway back to the point when was the last time you heard Randy put down another fighter?  Brock for having relatively little experience in MMA is getting things handed to him. He should really keep the F' Fedor comments to himself until he has been in the game for a bit longer and has at least established himself. I think it is a joke that after going 1 and 1 Lesner is even getting a title shot. I think Lesner is a tremendous talent my point was that I wish he would conduct himself with a little more class....

Your quote was about how Randy conducts himself.......trying to sue the company you willingly signed a contract for because you want to fight elsewhere is considered having "class"? Trying to break a contract because things aren't going your way is real classy, isn't it? Hiring lawyers and taking your employer to court for 11 months shows signs of pure class.

I'm sure with a little prying you could find dirt on everyone of these guys conducting themselves disrespectfully of the sport, they may talk nicey nice towards each other, but in reality do you really think all these guys "respect" each other?

I think it's great what he doing, he's stirring up shit, instead of all these fake ass guys standing up there saying "Oh, I wish my opponent the best of luck"  ::) he comes right out and says it, "Fuck that guy".......awesome.

As far as Randy being treated fairly, he signed the fucking contract, he must have felt it was fair at some point in time. And yes you can go to work for another employer, unless you signed a contract to work for your current employer for x amount of time and that time is not up yet.

You think he is going to get his ass handed to him, then be let out of his contract by UFC because of "bad performance" and he'll go and fight Fedor?

I don't think he even belongs in there with fedor in the first place,he's a had a good run beating Sylvia and gonzaga but there's no way he's gonna control fedor like he did those two...

I think lesnar will GNP randy for a couple rounds before randy calls it quits in a pretty uneventful fight

I was impressed with lesnars hands against herring and I don't think Couture will wanna keep it standing for too long, and when it goes to the ground he won't be able to do much with a wrestler with that much size on him...

randy's gonna probably gas pretty quick

He may have.......it was just a thought.

I do think Brock will be too much for him to handle. He'll need to test Brocks chin, and if that don't work he better hope Brock steps into something like he did with Mir.

I agree.  But I doubt Brock would let that happen again.

He signed a new 3 fight deal. I don't think Dana would let him walk after a loss after fighting so hard to keep in the first place. He would have been better aff losing in his original contract then asking for the walk.

Wow because you drop the f bomb now I see your point.... ::)... Anyway Not talking about finding dirt and this is not professional wrestling.  I was talking about the mutual respect that one professional gives another. Whether you are going into the ring, cage or on the mat there should always be a respect. Unless there is legitimate bad blood between each other. As far as I have seen puplicly Fedor has always said nice things about his competition no need to jump on the company band wagon and spout the Dana rhetoric. Anyway I guess we are all entitled to our opinions you have yours I have mine.

Again my point was not to debate whether or not I agree or disagree with how he handled the contract thing. Again like I said before most fans of MMA and many of the fighters were behind Randy's decision initially. This more about turning a sport into a circus show.

Lesner is a lot of talk and mostly hype.

How many chances did he have to finish Herring and couldn't?

Lesner got that first punch in that rocked herring.

After that, Lesner laid on top of Herring for 15 minutes.

That was a boring fight.

Fedor would destroy Lesner.
