Palin dodging Sunday Morning talk shows
« on: September 04, 2008, 03:15:56 PM »
The Politico's Michael Calderone offers a look at the lineups for the Sunday-morning talk shows:

Joe Biden will be making his first appearance on "Meet the Press" this Sunday since joining the Democratic ticket, an NBC spokesperson just confirmed.

As mentioned earlier, Obama will be on "This Week" and McCain on "Face the Nation."

So when's Palin's turn?

Why, what a good question. When is Palin's turn?

Prior to last night, McCain campaign handlers could, with varying degrees of credibility, argue that Palin couldn't sit down for media interviews because she was prepping for last night's speech. That's not exactly compelling, but that was their story and they were sticking to it.

But they're going to need new excuses to keep Palin hidden from questions. It's not a sustainable approach.

During the primaries Clinton and Obama both refused to go on Fox news' Sunday show. Admittedly Fox is right-wing, but this was not reported widely. So a Republican candidate not going on one of the 6 left-wing media outlets is scandalous?

How about the most widely recognized talk show..."Meet The Press", "moosejay?"  ::)

The reviews are in and most people think that Sarah Palin nailed her speech Wednesday night before the Republican National Convention.

Political gurl Karl Rove agrees with those accolades, but also thinks that Palin faces a difficult road ahead.

"She had a test last Friday and she nailed it," Rove told a crowd gathered for a breakfast panel discussion in St. Paul, Minneapolis. "She had a test last night and she nailed it. But being the newest player on the stage, she will also be the most tested and the most judged on the stage. Everyone is going to ask: 'When is she going to appear on a Sunday talk show program?' 'When is she doing to do an interview?' 'When is she going to give an unscripted speech?' 'When will she do a townhall meeting?' 'When will she answer questions on foreign policy?' 'How will she perform in a debate?'"

"And we're going to hear more questions about her performance than about any of the other candidates," said Rove. "The media is going to wonder, 'How can we make this an easy storyline and the easy storyline is, 'Can she do it?'"

Palin won't even go on Fox shows :)

She jumped the shark when she was introduced.  It's all downhill from here.  Rudy syndrome... looks perfect on paper, but the more people meet them, the more they choose another person.

her handlers wisely wont let her open her mouth in a situation that isnt scripted and not in front of a sympathetic neo-con audience

why do you keep going on about a 'townhall meeting'? obama has already done every possible venue of various sizes as well as plenty of debates with people far more intelligent than anyone on the repub ticket.

Plan to see Palin on the Today show and The View (but certainly not Oprah!).  That is the best she can handle and the way the Republicans will marginalize her to "appeal" to the "women's vote."

He's a gifted speaker. All smoke and mirrors. He's pandered to the short attention span of the American Idol public. I haven't seen anything in his appearances that qualifies as character. He won't recover.

he has consistently been extremely easy on his opponents, avoids personal attacks, trys to avoid things that stray from the issues period. he even said during the height of the palin controversies that her family should be off limits and urged his supporters to not use those methods.

on the other hand, your buddies spent the entire convention so far hurling personal attack after personal attack at obama himself. they have ridiculed the man himself, and the things he has done. they ridiculed any kind of community service. they did not even mention a single issue important to americans. all they did, the entire time, was to commit the whole convention to insulting barack obama, including palin, who he has  actually stood up for. yes very classy. give me a break, the republicans are dirtbags plain and simple and everyone but the hardline base sees it.

Not my messiah, mine is the King of Kings, the Lord Jehovah also known as Jesus Christ. ;) If Obama is your messiah, that is your issue.
Last I checked, it doesn't matter how far ahead you are, simply that you are ahead.  ;)

Read the above posts Benny. Matrix says the Republicans are dirtbags and everyone but the hardline base sees it. Now try to follow. If that's true and the polls have Republican candidate above 42%. Then there must be one hell of a large base.

I was appalled at her snide slams at him, not the policy ones fair enough, the personal ones. All he has said is back off her kid, she seems a fine person, welcome to the race, congrats on first woman and all those things and that is how she returns the good manners.

I know this a pres race so things must be done, but epic display of cutthroat lack of manners and class in front of your children no less.

Least it only helps Obama look more classy and got his people digging in their pockets.

Agree he is better at speaking than off the cuff.

Many people would like to know how Palin does, but appears she is too busy.

I really don't agree with this, unless thinking thoughtfully before answering some questions is a bad thing?  :-\ Obama speaks off the cuff all the time on the campaign trail. I've seen him do it in person. He also is quite funny at times.

By the way, Joe Biden going to be in the hot seat of "Meet The Press" this Sunday. I wonder when Palin will be on to answer questions about the economy, education, healthcare, foreign policy, her lack of experience, etc.  ::)

Hm, yes I agree with top point. He is good like that, comes across very likable, genuine, minimal gaffes etc. I still think he is better at speaking though, as it is simply outstanding, hence the crowds draws. People say whatever and make dumb excuses, but he is packing them in, a top orator.

And Palin is busy Benny >:(
