Paulo Filho ducks fighting Anderson Silva
« on: September 05, 2008, 08:45:16 AM »
“Definitely no. We’re close friends and I believe there’s space for everybody there, it’s definitely out of my plans.”

Undefeated WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho denies the recent rumors that the UFC is working on a plan to match him against its champion — Anderson Silva — to find out who the best middleweight in the world really is. Apparently Filho has no desire to face his countryman and good friend, saying emphatically that the super fight is not going to happen.

That's because he doesn't want to have his ass handed to him.

Fihlo would get beaten pretty handily. In the video's of Silva's training camps everyone talks about him being the top guy.  Paulo is good, no doubt, but not that good.  I don't think he could beat the top five or six guys at 185 in the UFC.  Which is why he fights in WEC.

They are very good friends and Silva has been qouted as saying this as well. My cousin and I were  just talking about this two nights ago.

Yeah its hard to really tear into a friend. I think the Rampage-henderson fight would have ended a lot faster and more decisively if both weren't good friends. Tough world when you and your buddies are competing for the same prize.  I think Fedor mentioned in an interview that he pulls his punches during his sambo comps when he takes on people that he knows.

"“I would never fight with Paulão. We train together, we’re always helping each other and (Josuel) Distak is our coach. There’s no chance to happen. People can complain, scream, whatever, but it won’t happen”, said the UFC middleweight champion." - Silva

Off topic question-Best pound for pound in the world; Fedor or Silva? I think its Silva, but admittedly I haven't seen Fedor fight more than 2 or 3 times.

Don't ask that.  There are too many opposing opinions, especially on this board. Both have totally dominated their weight class, and I mean in a complete degree. The only real advantage that Fedor has is that he has been dominating longer. Fedor has been dominating the HW class for going on eight years now, and Anderson has been killing folks for about three. Fedor has only one loss, due to a bad cut in 2001, and Anderson has three losses, two submissions and one for using an illegal upkick against Okami. Anderson has fought the best there currently is at middleweight, but there are people who point to Fedor's lack of wins against Coture and Josh Barnett as holes in his dominance. Fedor has, though, defeated Big Nog twice, the interem UFC champ who I personally think would take Randy pretty handily and has beaten Josh as well. And no one in their correct mind thinks that Fedor wouldn't manhandle Brock, who will fight Randy in november, especially because he usually fought some Japanese giant freak show and won every New Years Eve for a while.
