1) Thief- James Caan as an independent high class burglar that gets sucked into a few mob scores, only to be double-crossed. Not sure how many folks have seen it. Worth it just for the thermic lance safe cracking scene and the gun handling.
2) Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia- Warren Oates's time to shine in one of Peckinpah's darker films. A down and out ex-pat's luck takes a turn for the worst in the persuit of the dollar.
3) Kikujiro- Takeshi Kitano as a small time Yakuza who must take a small boy across Japan to meet his estranged mother. Much sadness and comedy ensues. Not as popular a Kitano's other Yakuza films, but a very sweet and decent film that shows his range as an actor.
4) Porky's- I don't think I need to explain this one, just a great comedy.
5) Hamburger- Dick Butkus leads a pack of misfits through a fast-food college(Buster Burger U. ). One of the lesser known teen comedies of the 80's, but a good one. Worth it just for the Buster Burger spiritual hymn.
6) Fight for Your Life- Classic blackexplotation film, starring William Sanderson(Deadwood's E.B. Farnum) as a racist escaped convict who takes a religious black family hostage. Hilarity ensues.
7) The Dark Half- If I had to be a bad guy...... I'd be George Stark. Romero adaption of Stephen King's novel.
Any Given Sunday- That's my sports pick. It was though picking between it and North Dallas Forty, but Pacino's speech sealed the deal.
9) Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer- Decent thinking man's horror film. Not shocking after all these years(not sure it ever was), but a good film both for it's place in history, and great acting. The character of Otis is played with great sleaziness by Tom Towles.
10) Taxi Driver- Just great. Acting, direction, scenery.........
Well that's my list, some are great, some good, and some absolute cheese, but all are most enjoyable.
