McCain, pre-Palin, October 2007: Mayors And Governors Can't Handle National Security

When does being a governor or mayor for a short period of time not disqualify your credentials on national security? When you are John McCain and your task is to defend your vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

When does being a governor or mayor for a short period of time ABSOLUTELY disqualify your credentials on national security? When you are John McCain and your task is to defeat primary opponents Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani.

Back in October 2007, when McCain's candidacy still appeared dead and buried, the Senator berated the two Republican front runners for lacking the necessary political experience to handle commander in chief responsibilities.

"I have had a strong and a long relationship on national security, I've been involved in every national crisis that this nation has faced since Beirut, I understand the issues, I understand and appreciate the enormity of the challenge we face from radical Islamic extremism," the Senator declared. "I am prepared. I am prepared. I need no on-the-job training. I wasn't a mayor for a short period of time. I wasn't a governor for a short period of time."

I thought Palin was a train wreck waiting to happen from day one.

I swear I almost felt sorry for her in the Charlie Gibson interview. Talk about a deer in headlights!  ::)

...I wasn't a governor for a short period of time"

reasons why John McCain suggested he was more qualified to be POTUS than Guiliani or Romney

but then how the does he explain Palin?

One thing lost in all this rambling is that you guys are making the same mistake as Obama. McCain is running for PRESIDENT, not vice-president. Palin is running for VP.

If elected, McCain runs the national security shows. Palin will need (and likely get) the "on-the-job-training".

That's one of the reason why Palin is such a beautiful pick (literally and figuratively). Every time, the liberals yap about her not being experience, it backfires, as they are then left to explain how their 4-year senator (who's been MIA, a huge chunk of the time) is more qualified to take over national security from Day ONE, should he win the election.

It also highlights the fact that the more-experience guy is at the BOTTOM of the Dem ticket; and the arguably most-qualified candidate (overall) for the Dems AIN'T ON THE TICKET AT ALL.

True.  In addition to the liberal hysteria over Palin, it's funny to see some of the so-called "Republicans" crying about Palin, but drinking the Messiah's Kool-Aid.

Palin was picked for her NeoCon pedigree which includes being willing to lie, intimidate, demand loyalty to party above country, conduct personal vendettas,  keep secrets and last but not least, appeal to the "single issue" brain dead christians.   Oh yeah, did I mention LIE.   She's really good at that.
