How did DOW perform: Clinton Vs. Bush.... surprising!
« on: September 17, 2008, 06:13:41 PM »
On January 20, 1993, the date of Clinton’s inauguration, did you know that the Dow stood at 3,241.95?

On Clinton’s last full day in office, January 19, 2001, the Dow closed at 10,587.59.

That represents a gain of 226% in eight years.

On January 22, 2001, Bush's first day in Office:
Dow - 10,578.24

Dow close today - Sept 17, 2008 - 10,604
that means a whole 6 point gain so far in the last 8 years.

That's a whopping .05 % ROI. In almost 8 years, the DOW went up an incredible .05%.

Bravo!  Helluva investment, eh?

Most economists agree that the economy is largely base off the previous president.  Also 240, you have to take into account the dot com boom.  The dot com thing crashed essentially right as bush was getting into office.

So the next president is going to benefit off of Bush's regime of massive borrowing to fund an unessesary occupation, a housing market crash, and the world losing faith in the dollar..........Intersti ng concept.

Near-Zero financial growth in 8 years....

and we're still blaming clinton.

Clinton didn't borrow 4.5 trillion (much of it from China).  bush did.
Dollar lost 41% of its value in the last 8 years.  Can't Blame Clinton there.

yes, but Clinto also worked with Chairmen Greenspan ( former fed chair) to develop and pass into law some effective regulations on the markets. The Bush bunch rolled back many of these regs in the name of the free market.
Hmm, for a "free market" it sure is going to cost us plenty now.

He actually repealed the Banking Act of 1930 which split investment banks and commercial banks into two separate entities. Seems like a big deal now as we see the way these firms are going under.

Also, can we stop this "insert presidents name" onomics bullshit. 240 you seem to be to smart to fall into this trap. History will place, correctly, most of the blame for this mess on the doorstep of "Easy" Allan Greenspan and the Federal Reserve. Their policy of cheap money and printing press economics has created two gigantic bubbles in 20 years, interestingly enough, when two new presidents were in office under less than ideal economic conditions. The cheap money needs to go somewhere, Tech and housing is where it has gone and both have blown up apocalypticlly. The next bubble will be created under the same conditions under a new president no matter what party they are from, and it will blow up even worse. And 240 talks about DOW performance over 2 presidents....the tech bubble burst as Clinton left office, if he had stayed another 8 years (hypothetically) the same shit now would still happen.

Stop this partisan bullshit, it goes far beyond that petty bullshit.
