Cell Phone Question
« on: September 19, 2008, 10:43:10 AM »
I have a relative that wants to eliminate her land-line and get a cell phone.  She doesn't need anything fancy - in fact the simpler the better (she doesn't even have a computer).

She makes frequent long distance calls and wants nothing to do with Verizon.

Any suggestions on phones and plans please?

Good to stay away from Verizon.  I hate them.  I actually liked Nextel.  I love the walkie talkie feature.  I was in an elevator at a hotel on Maui and Stuntmovie (who posts here) actual walkie talkied me when he was in San Francisco.  I thought that was awesome

Some carriers are better than others depending on location.
US Cellular works well for me.  Can't beat unlimited nights and weekends, free incoming, 1000 anytime min.  I never have any hidden charges, dropped calls or any other problems.

I have Verizon right now and have been with them for about 5 years or so.  The house I have in Vegas where I am at now has the worst coverage anywhere in vegas.  At one time I was averaging 50 drop calls a month according to the girl at Verizon.  And they drop at the worst times.  I would spend hours a month on the phone with the techs at Verizon.  They said it just must be a bad spot cause there is a tower less than a mile away.  I hate Verizon now.  I am going to switch to Nextel probably soon.  My plan is good though.  Unlimited for $99.  I talk about 3000 to 4500 minutes a month and alot of it back east
