Palins Staff Subpoenaed and Didnt show... Sound Familiar?
« on: September 19, 2008, 04:05:15 PM »
We dealt with one administration that ignored our laws.... Palin and her Husband and their staff must be different?  I hope when the state Congress starts up again in January they all get held in contempt of court and Jailed.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska lawmaker directing an abuse-of-power investigation of Gov. Sarah Palin promised Friday the probe will be finished before the election, despite refusals by key witnesses to testify, including the governor's husband.

After waiting 35 minutes for Todd Palin and two state administrative employees to appear under subpoena before the state Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Hollis French condemned their refusal to testify and the attorney general's broken promise that seven other witnesses would testify who were not subpoenaed.

French said the retired prosecutor hired by the Alaska Legislature to investigate Palin, Stephen Branchflower, will conclude his investigation by Oct. 10. Still, that report will not include testimony from the Republican vice presidential nominee, her husband or most of the top aides Branchflower hoped to interview.

Sarah Palin's allies hoped the investigation would be delayed past the election to spare her any troublesome revelations — or at least the distraction — before voters have made their choice. Palin's reputation as clean-government advocate who takes on entrenched interests is central to her appeal as Republican John McCain's running mate, and possibly at risk in the probe.

Palin initially promised to cooperate in the investigation, telling the Legislature to "hold me accountable." Lawmakers were investigating accusations she dismissed the state's public safety commissioner because he refused to fire her ex-brother-in-law, a state trooper. She now opposes the investigation.

Palin spokesman Bill McAllister declined to comment Friday. The McCain campaign said there are concerns about the effect of political influence on the Legislature's inquiry and Palin will provide any information needed to a separate investigation by the Alaska State Personnel Board.

The committee subpoenaed six people to appear Friday to testify or meet for private interviews with Branchflower. French said three of those six had complied. Todd Palin, special assistant Ivy Frye and Randy Ruaro, who is the governor's deputy chief of staff, did not.

Todd Palin's attorney sent French a letter Thursday listing Palin's objections to the Legislature's investigation of his wife. Among them, the attorney said, were jurisdiction questions, separation of power issues and an inconvenient travel schedule.

Subpoenas were approved on seven other government employees, but not served because the state attorney general's office had agreed to cooperate, French said. But Attorney General Talis Colberg earlier this week reversed himself, saying the governor declined to participate and that Palin administration employees would not appear.

French said subpoenas will be issued for those seven people, ordering them to testify on Sept. 26.

Witnesses who refuse to testify can be found in contempt under Alaska law. But the full Legislature must be in session, which won't happen until January. That means witnesses can stonewall without penalty beyond the Nov. 4 election, lawmakers said.

One of them, Sen. Gene Therriault, opposed the subpoenas. He said Friday the investigation was intended to uncover whether the governor was justified in firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, and he believes she was.

Bill Clinton - as PRESIDENT - actually had to show up and testify in a civil suit.

Odd that she and her husband believe they are above the law.

Just so you know, they'll do what the republicans have done for 8 years - simply IGNORE investigations.

it might be funny to you repubs, but wait til President Obama decides he doesn't have to answer to anyone...

If it's close, Mccain wins it.

Personally - I have a few off-the-wall predictions.  I think Bin Laden will be found in October.  Wraps up the whole Bush Presidency neatly and give McCain a huge boost.

I think Obama will react by pulling Biden from the ticket and adding hilary last minute.

I have those exact same thoughts... I was thinking Biden would have a heart attack or something and have to with drawl... and Hillary is Named VP...

But I dont think it will be close. I think obama will win pretty easy... after the debates and people REALLY start researching them, people will see McCain is starting to become senile and palin is a disaster of a pick.

We'll see some BS vague photos, claim an airstrike did it.  yeah, I think he checked out in Egypt in 2002 as reported at the time - nobody with shot kidneys lives in a cave that long.  As soon as he's dead, we lose the green light to bomb anyone we want.

Obama's gaining a lot of momentum this week - see what has happened to palin's approval rating in the last week.  Honeymoon's over...

Biden had a brain aneurism about 20 years ago.  So he's always got that card to play.  He'd continue being a top senator, but step down to the ticket has the 'grrrrrl power' which has drawl so many shallow voters to Mayor Palin.

It's nothing more than a political witch hunt.  She was wise not to show.  Maybe Obama should be subpoened for his relationship with the disgraced former head of Fannie Mae, who donated tons of $ to his campain.  The dems will try everything to discredit Gov. Palin.

It's actually repubs in alaska that started this investigation long before she was chosen vp.

The case was closed against this state trooper.  But he "did her sister wrong", so Palin became governor and tried to re-open his case.  When told that's illegal, she and her staff all called local police HQ to pressure him getting fired.

That's illegal.

Plus, she initially said she had nothing to hide, and she wants to face the charges asap and clear her good name.  She said that 5 weeks ago.  Suddenly, she AND her hubby refuse to testify?  You can't fight a supoena, even if it's BS.  You HAVE To go.  If you or I just "no-show" for a supoena, we go to jail, ya know?

gymguy,

Busted has his facts right on this one.  Republican judges believe she broke the law.   This was long before mccain picked her - don't believe Karl Rove that "it's all the dems and a witch hunt".  She was getting heat for this case from her own party, months ago.

She broke the law, and they have her goose cooked.  They have calls, witnesses, and email.  Once they get her and hubby in stand, she will be impeached.  That is, unless she becomes VP.

Funny thing, if she DOESNT get elected VP, She will get removed from office, Hubby and her staff members will be facing the Senate with contempt for ignoring their subpoenas....

Emails, Phone calls, Phone calls recorded, his entire staff was receiving calls from them....  BUSTED

She'll be able to plead - she won't be facing any time - but yes, there is more than ample ground to impeach her.  Her husband faces more serious charges, as he has ZERO legal ground to avoid the supoena.  He HAS to go, and he doesn't want to.

It doesn't work like that.

She abused her power.  If you say it's okay - then imagine your ex-girlfriend's sister becomes governor of your state and suddenly you get 5 speeding tickets a week, health department is at your place of business every day, police get "random" tips you're selling drugs and keep harassing you at work, etc.

You wouldn't be cool with it, because it's an abuse of power.  Governors cannot abuse power for personal vendettas.

ABC Exclusive: New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims = Internal Government Document

Exclusive: New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims
Internal Government Document Contradicts Sarah Palin, Campaign
By JUSTIN ROOD - Sept. 19, 2008 - http://www.abcnews.go.com/print?id=5844710

An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."

Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, for refusing to go along with a personal vendetta, Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives.

I said that right away when she was nominated, she isn't the type of female to get the female vote as her views are not one most would consider progressive for women. Doubt many formerly undecided women will be swayed to vote for her once they become more familiar with her views, as the polls are already showing. The rape kit thing was the nail in that coffin.
