The McDonald's in Rome have free maps.  It sounds dumb I know, but there's almost always a Mcdonald's in sight in Rome's tourist zone and it's a very easy way to navigate.  12 years ago, at least...

Btw, giving your name as "Joe Bradley" might get a laugh.  Also, most backpackers have been living on bread, cheese, and bananas for weeks.  Treat a girl to a nice lunch, she's yours.  Dinner and a nice hotel room (without bunk beads and 6 other snoring travelers) and you can go ATM.  They tend to move in twos or threes tho, so you'll have to cut one from the herd... unless you're a better man than I.

Most over rated TOURIST capitol of the world! Every road leads to Rome? Every toilet flushed goes to Rome! Viareggio is the worst! Unfortunately still afffiliated with it. . Absolute toilet!

So what if it's not as cool as Florence or whatever.  It's his first real trip.  Lots of good stuff and good times to be had.  The fact that it's heavily touristed is probably a good thing for Goudy.


Edit: One thing I REALLY didn't care for in Europe is that you can't even take a piss for free in a lot of touristy areas.  Once again: God bless McDonald's.

For Americans its a dream come true until they go there.They go to sleep every afternoon? Go out to the country and have a Grandma cook for you? Best food ever!!!!!!!! In the city? Tuscany is a just a word for ghetto. Go To the south. Calabria is life changing. Hot peppers!

Fair enough.  On a long holiday you'd be looking for something to give you a more intimate knowledge of the place.  On a short trip tho, there's something to be said for just seeing a few famous places, meeting some women, and not worrying too much about the authenticity of the experience.  Guess it just comes down to what you enjoy.
